Week 32 - Toronto Masters - SF : Andy vs Rafael Nadal

So, it's Rafa time again !

Folk will probably be largely aware of the history, but anyway it's 8 - 3 to Rafa, and it's like this...

Andy's 3 wins are the 2008 US open semi final, a memorable win spread over 2 days, and his first against Rafa after 5 defeats.  The other two were in the 2009 Rotterdam final and this year's Aus Open QF, on both occasions undoubtably Nadal had problems with his dodgy knees but Andy also had played well both times before they began to give way and a 6 - 0 final set and a retirement followed respectively.

Rafa's 8 wins are 2 Wimby meetings, 2 Clay Court Masters meetings, 3 Hard Court Masters meetings and their very first meeting in the L16 of the 2007 Aus Open. We all had known Andy was rather good for some time, that epic 5 setter was when I really thought, wow, we have a real contender here.

As for today, a match that could go either way.  Both at times have looked some way off their best this week.  Andy though certainly raised his level substantially against Nalby yesterday and serving like that and with a positive intent like that ( which doies usually come out against Nadal ) then it is a match he can win even if Nadal too raises himself a level.

Match is due not before 3 pm local time ( 8 pm BST ), following a doubles semi due at 1 pm local.

In terms of US Open preparation it is important for Andy to get a big win over either Rafa or Fed this week or next week in Cincinnati just to remind himself that he is good enough to beat them in big tournaments.

A bit apprehensive about this - 30 mins or so to go before kick-off

Have registered with bet365 in the hopes of getting a stream without ads all over it - but I liked the commentators that were on the stream via ADTHE - so hopefully it will be the same (?)

Benneteau and Llodra are  7 - 6  5 - 3 *  up in the doubles so hopefully they will finish very shortly and let Andy and Rafa start basically on time.

But they are GEMs  hmm.gif

Thopugh if the serve line official had better eyesight on one second serve he'd be a break down.
