Disappointing draws with Jennifer Ren drawing Naomi, and Sabrina drawing Jo-Ko. Jess Ren has a good chance to get another win on paper, though in round 2 she faces the winner of Bamburac and Konta...

Won Against Jen 61 61. Back On For My Next Match In About An Hour, Playing Nicky Van Dyck Frm Belgium
Maybe the sucessive matches affected her? Id really hoped for Broady to have kicked on to GS qualifying level, sorta like Georgie Gent pre-injury. Hope she can be by the Aussie.

Naomi's actually in a liitle danger of going backwards rather than forwards overall rankingwise by the end of the year.
She's got a few months now with nothing to defend and really wants to be cracking on past her CH ( WR 267 from April ) and into the top 250 before she has the 74 points to defend from her great 3 tournament run in Mexico and Cuba at the end of last year.
That's the most shocking result I've seen from a Brit for some time - from the scoreline, it looks like it was a competitive match (i.e. not affected by illness/injury) but I can't see anything in van Dyck's past record to suggest she should have had any chance against Naomi at all.

She has an ankle injury and is currently recovering. She should be back fairly soon hopefully! The reason she chose now to change her name was because the injury meant she wasnt travelling so it was simpler.
Naomis loss is somewhat worrying but if she just had a total mindblank then these things happen to the best. It does make me more uncertain of whether her 6-4 6-4 win vs Mel was in anyway a good score for Mel...
