That looks a really good win for Heather and she certainly seems pleased in her tweet : "Won my first round here in Estonia 6-1, 6-2. Played really well."
I'd liked how last week although she didn't think she'd played that well vs Danilidou she said that she had learned lots and was off for a good week of training. Anyway, that win should take her to yet another new CH and provisionally above Cav. Over to Cav to respond tomorrow
Another tough loss for Mel, hope she can turn it round soon, As for Naomi that win should take her back close to her CH of 267 that she established back in April. Although she hasn't really pushed on as quickly as some probably hoped this year after her really fine end to last year, she has steadily gathered points through the year and now has over 3 montrhs without anything to defend until her December points ( 74 in all ) come off. Hopefully she can progress closer to the 200 mark in that time.
Also, really good looking win for Fitzy against that Aussie

Great win for Heather and its looking that we may get our mouthwatering matchup in the semis with Anne. Anna F winning not a huge surprise as I liked the way she was playing at Wrexham and thought she had a great chance to move further up those rankings. It appears to me that JoKo is a streaky player. When her game is on she is capable of winning challengers but when its not she can go on a bad run of first round defeats. Mel a bit rusty following her layoff, but a much needed win for Naomi.
is this mels first tournament since wimbledon where she looked decidely unfit and IMo should not have played.
Yes - no surprise therefore that she lost. JoKo also had to withdraw from tournaments in July, and prefers clay to hard, so looked vulnerable to an upset.
Anne on twitter: "Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to move forwards... Or so I'm told, because I can think of some better places to be right now!"
Surely she didn't lose to Ejdesgaard?! Sounds like she did, or (even worse) got injured again.
