Week 32 - ATP 1000 - Rogers Cup, Toronto Masters (Hard)

Murray's playing again and  is the 4th seed. Here's his quarter, in Nadal's half

Murray vs. BYE
Malisse vs. Berrer
Lopez vs. de Bakker
Gonzalez vs. Monfils
Ferrer vs. Nalbandian
Robredo vs. Q
Gulbis vs. Bellucci
Soderling vs. BYE

Looks pretty tricky but you'd expect Murray, to come through that hopefully, Soderling is struggling with injury, Gonzalez/Monfils havn't been playing in a while i'd expect probably Malisse and Nalbandian to pose him the most trouble here

Edit: Changed title - it's the Rogers Cup all right, but Toronto not Cincy

Normally you would expect Andy to come through that, with a good chance of taking Nadal as well - but the way he has been recently and all the coaching upset, I'm going to take it one match at a time!

I don't really think that's too bad.

Nalbandian was out there as someone you didn't want early on, but I'm less concerned about him as a possible quarter final opponent if he comes through the Soderling section.

Basically I think the draw's OK, it's more what sort of Andy Murray turns up  hmm.gif

Edit :  That said, I see Malisse has beaten Isner and Berdych to reach the semis in the Legg Mason 500 in Washington and Nalbandian is also into the semis  hmm.gif

Well, the Canadians aren't so shy with giving all four MD WCs to their own, WRs 200, 209, 328 and 368.

All four QWCs also go to Canadians WR 544, 597 and two unranked players aged  17 and 19 with alts ( I guess maybe originally QWCs ) WR 331 and 380.

That's a clear indication that they'll never have a top 100 player, unlike some countries which don't hand out WCs and as a result have at least five or six of them there.

Was Soderling injured? I heard that he was vacationing and hence withdrew from Washington. Of course, you can take a vacation after getting injured. Or get injured during a vacation, for that matter.

I'm more worried about Soderling here than James Ward's hitting partner.

confuse Dancevic is top 70 easily when fit, Raonic is also a good young player who's been out with injury and one of the highest ranked under 20's in the world

Yep, should take steps to ensure that people don't fall into the chasm.

Yeah, Canadians are doing well. Polansky will be top 100 someday, too, probably.

Ross Hutchins teams up with Andy and gets the last entry into the main draw. The next pair in line were Flemski (who now go on to Binghampton according to Twitter). They have been drawn against Kohlschreiber & Monfils with the winners to play 7th seeds Mrarach & Norman.

This is good news for Ross obviously but, he has SEVEN zero point scores in his best 18 from entering masters and slams and losing in the 1st round. He gets a 1st round pay cheque but, is it really working for him? Lets hope for at least a single win here (though a run would be better!)

Meantime in the semis in another place, Malisse lost to Baghdatis  6 - 2  7 - 6  and Nalbandian beat Cilic  6 - 2  6 - 2

Hmm. Nalby is the one who worries me most in Andy's section of the draw.

Apparently the Numpster has won 59% of his return games this week, and that at a venue that normally favours big servers!
