As in 2009, the US summer hard court swing Masters 'Battle of the Boards' pick 'em will be Canada instead of Cincy, and entries are likely to open very late tomorrow (Friday) or early Saturday at http://www.freewebs.com/britishtennis/competitions.html, where you can currently find the up to date overall BOTB rankings.
Entries will close at 15.00 GMT (4 pm UK / 17.00 CET / 11 am US EDT/Toronto time) on Monday 9 August, so there is a fairly long entry period, with qualifiers likely to be known by late Sunday evening UK time if the Ontarian weather is ok over the weekend.
I believe Numpty Nalby (allegedly on hot form, but we don't call him Numpty for nothing) will be back to mess us all around, with the help of Ernests 'heave-ho' Gulbis and various other clowns, so it should be an excruciating week for everyone (just the way we like it, eh?), but you can console yourself with the thought that Cincy is nearly always even madder, and unless you play the ATP BC too, you'll be spared the horrors of that event for the second year in a row.

I'm pondering a GEM rich strategy, on the basis that 1) They're all overdue to do something and 2) At least it'll get all the disappointment over with early.

Loving reason no. 2!
I forgot to say, entries are now open (have been for about 17 hours in fact!)

With the rain in Toronto, the chances of qualifiers getting placed before midnight UK are looking very slim indeed. If this means you need to pick earlier, at least there aren't any Q v Q matches!

Right, I'm in, with a completely deranged set of predictions ( though I have reigned in from my earlier insane ideas of picking the GEMs to deliver the goods )
I scored 42 in this one last year, and I'm really not confident about beating that this time, to be honest. I guess that's the danger with no points to protect - a sort of 'nothing to lose' madness engulfs you.
Took me a minute to actually remember who Falla was when I read that. Then I remembered why I'd forgotten - came to the overwhelming conclusion at Wimbledon that his match, impressive as it was, was not going to be the start of a big run and was more of a one-match-wonder that pops up every now and then. Hence him then getting consigned to memory oblivion other than the vague recollection of "hey, haven't I picked him to lose in Pick'em a few times?"
I barely managed to get my entry in before the deadline. I wasn't the only one, so a little birdie tells me.
