Hignett's playing doubles again this week. He & his Spanish partner, Iván Gómez Mantilla have a bye into the QFs, where they will face the third seeds, Juan José Leal Gómez & Mark Vervoort (ESP/NED).
FQR: James Allemby UNR lost to (q10) Ismael Rodríguez-Ramos (ESP) WR 1411 by 0 & 3
L32: (1) Morgan Phillips WR 419 v Hiroyasu Ehara (JPN) WR 1082 L32: Andrew Gregory WR 822 v (Q) Taro Daniel (JPN) UNR
Daniel is 17 and this is only the second Futures event he has qualified for - the first one was last week, when he upset Falcão (see abocve) on the way but lost 2 & 1 to Fornell-Mestres in R1. He's world junior 37 (though he lost in R1 at both junior RG and junior Wimbledon) so this could still be tough, but at last a decent chance for Andrew to get his first ranking point as a Brit!

The effects of severe food poisoning explain the retirement, it appears, which while horrible has to be better than an injury.
Hopefully he'll be ok for Friedberg next week, where he is one withdrawal away from being seeded. (the way his luck's going, you just know he'll draw the no. 1 seed in R1 if he isn't ...)

Agreed. It's almost as if he's cracking under the pressure of all those points that need to be defended this summer. In the past, he's always seemed mentally pretty strong, as far as you can tell just from results (i.e. not a lot) but he's been on a bad run of form since getting seeded highly in Futures.
