Followed it up to 1 set all and was thinking about whether he could keep it up. Thats a very big win for him and finally gets some points again, now looking at this challenger, its quite a big one and im sure he'll want to make the most of it now hes in the main draw with some top players. This is hopefully where his best tennis will start to come out.
Great to see hes ended another streak against brits, hes very capable of results like this, depends what Chris turns up on the day i think. When hes good, hes very good- of course when the serve is working as well, hes danngerous.
Im not sure what the courts are like there, but with 3 matches under his belt, he has had a nice bit of time to get used to them.
Hopefully he can have a run in the singles or doubles now this week.
L32: (Q) Chris Eaton WR 509 v Yannick Mertens (BEL) WR 219 - 10.00 BST on Tuesday
A strange connection between today's two Brit-basher bashers - Mertens lost to Jamie B's victim Ouanna in R1 of the Recanati Challenger last week and has won just 1 of his last 10 matches (since reaching the Biella Challenger QFs in May, where he beat Dustin Brown then Sorensen before losing to Phau), that win being against an unranked Swede in Bastad qualifying.
To make this match even more interesting, Chris beat Mertens 7-6(5) 7-6(6) on his way to winning the Glasgow title in January, ending the Belgian's 7-match BBS

I would think that was Chris's best win of the year so far, I even remember how someone said that Mertens seemed to struggle against Chris's game style.
Chris can go into this with nothing to lose now and probably with a slight mental edge due to him winning that one in Glasgow so narrowly.
