Cant see Eleni playing doubles, travelling and then winning. Hope Im right....

By my calculations a victory against Eleni would move Heather up to #4 GB?

Heather would go equal on ranking points with Cav.

With the points that Cav drops, and with now not apparently playing this coming week, Cav will be on 242 points in Monday week's rankings.

Heather if she wins her QR1 gets 6 points, which would replace her 16th score of 1 point, taking her also to 242 points.

The initial tiebreaker is :  The player with the most combined total points from Grand Slams, Premier Mandatory Tournaments, Premier 5 Tournaments and the Sony Ericsson Championships.

That's Cav if Grand Slam qualifying counts. If, as I suspect, it doesn't, it would be Heather. All very straightforward, so I didn't need to change this post a few times   wink.gif

Thanks, thats interesting. A chance at #4 then regardless for Heather. Quite agree with the opinions here - they cant mess the opponents round like this.

Tough draws for the women but at least theyre in with a chance. Both have 'Im not sure what to expect' type opponents. Hope Anne can get the win though, Bally should win if she plays Schiavone match-esque but not if she plays like Petkovic.

I couldn't believe it either when I got back tonight to find that Heather hadn't played and tthe match had been postponed until tomorrow. It seemed like extreme favouritism, I didn't realise there was actually a rule behind it. If there is, that's very different from the ATP rules.

Still livid about this, so you basically hold the tournament up for someone playing in the SF of the 'doubles' of one of the minor 'big boys tournaments'. Yet compare that with Anna's position who is actually in the same situation playing in the SF of the doubles but obviously just in a 'mickey mouse' tournament. I bet Anna would have liked the same opportunity.

Heather who had a decent opportunity to qualify will now have to play 3 matches in the space of 24 hours all which have the potential to go to 3 long sets. We know Heather is fit but this is a big ask. I presume this is a rule and wonder what the situation would have been if Miss Wozniacki had been in Heather's situation.

Yes, does seem a bit strange and a bad rule.  Of course if it backs up matches for the player involved in being delayed so be it, but it is the backing up of matches for the opponent, if they win, that is the problem.

Of course, can't blame Daniilidou.  She has clearly wanted to play here and get as far as she can in the Istanbul doubles, which she won. The rules apparently allow for her first match apparently here to be delayed, and she has gone for it.

We wait to see really what effect it has on Heather.  It is hardly the best preparation for Daniilidou, so the match may prove easier than it might have been for Heather.  And as Phil says, she does appear pretty fit, certainly her 3 set record seems to indicate.

Heather due to start shortly, and her potential FQR opponent not far from completing their match.

The WTA Tour use this system rather than Special Exempts (like ATP/ITF) presumably because they can encourage more fringe Tour level singles players to play doubles as a result. It is not that unusual for more than one match to be postponed 24 hours as a result (there were 2 at Bad Gastein recently for example).

However where there is only one affected match I think it would have been fairer to have also rescheduled Diatchenko's first-round qualifying match till today.
