Week 30: ATP 250 series - Farmers Classic ($619,500), Los Angeles (hard) - QF: Andy vs Alejandro Falla

Next up Falla from Columbia.  Only meeting was when Andy beat him in the Binghamton Challenger final in 2005.

Falla is currently ranked 65 with a career high of 58 from April this year. He seems a pretty decent all surface player having results on both clay and hard and of course gave Fed a bit of a scare in Round 1 at Wimbledon when he could / should have won from 2 sets up and chances to close out the match.

Should be a step-up in opponent for Andy, which means from accounts of his first round that Andy himself will need to step up his game.

For us in the UK, it's another 3.30 am gig  cry

That would have been an interesting match confuse

What's 20 years among friends? wink But yes, even Andy wasn't capable of winning Challengers 2 years before he was born. smile

Yes, sure would have been.  Anyway you would have thought Andy would have sorted out his serve after all these years  smile

Err, don't quite know where 1985 came from  disbelief.gif   Sorted in original.

If Andy hasn't had the stiffness and soreness sorted out, he could have a problem here. I watched the entire match of Fed v Falla at Wimby, and the end of Falla's match against Gulbis last night: it looks like the Columbian can run all day and make his opponent try to do the same. Could be a problem if Andy's movement is still restricted. Andy *should* win of course, but if Wimby was best of 3, Falla would have beaten Fed.

No way can I stay awake for this (the saying that old people don't need as much sleep is rubbish) so I'll try going to sleep with fingers, arms, legs and eyes crossed, and hope to hear good news in the morning.

Murray survives a set point to hold. Falla holds to 15.

*5-6

Murray's right knee seems to be giving him some trouble. He doesn't look happy out there.

Murray takes the tie break 7-3

That set was a big struggle. Only 45% of first serves in, just 3 aces and very few cheap points.

7-6(3)
