Turkish TV just interviewed Petko in German - she was very pleased with the way she served, felt a bit out of sorts early on (not moving that well) and was taken aback by the pace/aggression coming from Elena but eventually got the measure of it.

Always going to be different today against an up and coming player playing well, as opposed to a top 10 player(allbeit one whose career ranking suggests one more of say a top 20/30 player) playing badly. I'll think we'll just forget about that second set, which even with Petkovic playing well, does not provide an accurate reflection of how good a player Bally has been this year.

Anyone else notice Anne Keaothavong clearly showing support for Petkovic on Twitter? Very dissapointing IMO, shows no team spirit. If you look at how close the Italians players are and how successful they have been over the last few years, I think a close, supportive network is something team GB should definately strive for.

I agree with the last sentence, and I think the GB girls (at least) have got a decent network, but I don't think Anne's tweet clearly shows support for Petkovic at all - just a bit of banter with a former doubles partner (they won a round together in Rome this year)

Yes, absolutely to me just a banter response to an earlier tweet from Petkovik.
I had taken from the tweet that they had maybe played doubles with each other in the past, as Steven confirms, and I notice they follow each other on twitter and Andrea in particular only follows 29 folk.
You undoubtably establish friendships beyond boundaries and this looks one.
The fact that Bally was perhaps / definitely going to be playing Petkovic to me is entirely coincidental, and no reason not to banter re Petkovic's earlier tweet that was wholly unconnected. Just such a non issue in my opinion.
I also agree with Steven that my impression is the GB girls have a pretty good network.

The way it was phrased i had assumed Anne had posted a tweet saying something like "Im so happy Petkovic hammered Baltacha, she is so brilliant Elena is rubbish", no the actual tweet is harmless banter that isn't even tennis related
Oh, i thought that tweet was posted after the Bally match and my interpretation of it was that Anne was saying she was gutted she didn't get in to see Petkovic win..whoops! But still, I have always sensed a bit of aminosity between Anne and Bally. It would be nice to see some rapport and support between them.
Anne actually tweeted about a month or so ago saying everyone should follow Petkovic on twitter as she was one of the nicest girls on the tour. Plus she also mentioned she was gutted not to be in Petkovic's top three girls on tour weekly list this week :P Obviously get on well.
For Anne's position re. her relationship with Bally see her Q&A section on her website where she answers a recent question from a fan.
They're not great friends but certainly not enemies either, Bally I think keeps herself to herself whilst at tournaments whereas Anne prefers to mix more with the other players.
