RE: Week 30 - ATP 250 ($619,500) - Los Angeles, USA (Hard)

GSM Okun 5-7 6-4 6-2, extremely disappointing from Ward.

Lost    7 - 5   4 - 6   2 - 6        cry

Just a big disappointment from being  4 - 1 up in the second set to falling away so much and finally comfortbaly losing the final set.

Unless James picked up an injury that is a hugely dissappointing collapse.

It's one thing to lose a game from a set and a break up but to only win 2 out of 13 games when you are playing someone of similar rank is simply not good enough.

My commiserations to everyone else who stayed up for this cry.gif

There must have been something up with the conditions here though - breaks of serve all over the place this weekend.

As I said a big disappointment but as well as James fading it looks very possible that Okun upped his game, which I am sure we would have considered if the result had been the other way around.

Still, as RJA says, you wouldn't be anticipating either just winning 2 out of 13 games.

pretty dire in the end, Lindhal turning into a Brit basher :(
boggo seeming to struggle with serve ever since he landed in the States, in fact going back to his wimby doubles match. his decision to play less events and have a go a ATP's looks to have backfired (unless he has a great week in Vancouver).

Tim Smyczek beat Lindahl in the final qualifying round and will play Gabashvili and the winner of that match plays Murray in round 2.

Lindahl got in as a LL after Mardy Fish withdrew.

Gulbis won his 1st round match yesterday and is on course to meet Murray in the QF.

Wardy may be feeling that Fish is a week late in his withdrawal  hmm.gif

Fish won the Atlanta title, beating Isner in the final after beating Roddick in the semis.

got a little bit of info from Boggo, in the WC playoff there were more rounds than Steven earlier posted as it looked like it was a round robin/group 1st.

He beat some guy 10-3 , then lost to devarman 12-10 and then beat nishikori 10-7 and then played devarman in the semis and lost to him again 10-8 and then played for 3rd and 4 th place for $1000 and lost 10 -7. Have to say looks like Deverman has an edge over him, winning in 3 sets 1 week then beating him in 2 best CTB's :(

after losing to Lindhal he entered an 'open' tournament, no serve and you feed the ball in up to 21 and he won, beating spadea in the final and $5000 prize, so at least the week ended on a high for him.

hopefuly he be feeling good going in Vancouver, needs to get thw serve firing again!

Wow, this tournament certainly has quite a few interesting side-issues ( / gimmicks ? ) going on.

I think I quite like particularly the MTB WC competition but also the slightly different "open" tournament.

Let the main draw continue as normal and I don't see any harm anyway.

Thanks Jac - it was weird the way the LA tweets made it sound like there was a group phase then gave the results as if it was pure KO, so it's good to have that mystery solved.

$5000 is more than you get for reaching the Final of a $50K Challenger!

The match before Flemski's has finished, so they will be up live on Radio Tennis next, though the normal awful music is being played now.

The guy who Boggo beat 10-3 was Chase Buchanan. Do you know any of the guys he had to beat to in order to reach the final against Spadea?

Heading into a 1st set tie-break, just the 1 break point for Bopanna / Qureshi which Flemski saved.
