Tough draws for Lucy and, should she progress, Katy who would have to play the strong French player Leolia Jeanjean in round 2

U18 R2 (L64)

(3) Cristina Dinu (ROU) v Lucy Brown
Jennifer Ren v Ilinca Stoica (ROU)

U16 R1 (L128)

(16) Jessica Ren BYE
Katy Dunne v Silvia Garcia Jimenez (ESP)

Katy lost 2-6 6-1 6-0 cry.gif

Bit of a strange scoreline and a shame she doesn't get to test herself against the 2nd seed.

Weird scoreline indeed. But I dont think it's atypical in junior girls' tennis.

U18 R2 (L64)

Jennifer Ren (GBR) d. Ilinca Stoica (ROU) 6-4 3-6 6-4

R3

Jennifer Ren (GBR) v Zsofia Susanyi (HUN)

The Hungarian was ranked 15 at the start of the year, but has been playing on the Pro Circuit since

U16 R2 (L64)

Hedda Odegaard (NOR) d. (16) Jessica Ren (GBR) 6-4 6-4

A poor loss for Jess leaving the doubles (through to the last 16) as the only remaining interest in this category

U14 R3

Alice Keddie (GBR) v Zsofia Koleszar (HUN)
(13) Andreea Gradinaru Fometescu (ROU) v Katie Boulter (GBR)

Lucy and Jen are also through to the last 16 in the U18 doubles.  They are seeded 8th against an Israeli team seeded 11th.

U14 R3

Alice Keddie (GBR) d. Zsofia Koleszar (HUN) 6-3 6-2
(13) Andreea Gradinaru Fometescu (ROU) d. Katie Boulter (GBR) 7-5 6-2

L16

Irina Shymanovich (BLR) v Alice Keddie (GBR)

Alice and Katie reached the quarters of the doubles by knocking out the top seeds. Unfortunately they have to play the strong French duo of Cascino/Tanfil next (core of the team that reached the final of the European Summer Cup, beating GBR 3-0 en route)

Katy and Jess exited from the under 16 doubles, ending all British interest in that category

Katy and Jess both lost early enough to enter the Consolation draw but I don't think there is one for Ollie, Jen and Lucy in the U18s.

In some Tennis Europe events, especially the top category ones, they organise a consolation event for players who lose their first match (whether it be in the first or second round). It gives them additional match practice and the potential to gain a few ranking points, but they are not very significant.

Jess has managed to lose her opening match in the consolation event. There isn't any such event in ITF Under 18 Juniors.

They used to have that at Wimbledon ages ago.  Was called the Plate.

Singles involvement in the girls events ended very abruptly

Under 14 L16

Irina Shymanovich (BLR) d. Alice Keddie (GBR) 6-0 6-0

The strong French duo easily beat Alice and Katy in the doubles, thus ending British interest in the under 14s. Just Jen + Lucy left in the under 18 doubles
