Anne on Twitter: "If you want a lesson on how to hit the back fence, just reply... After today's performance, I'll be ranked numero uno at it"

Yet still she managed to bagel a top 150 player ...

Anne didnt seem to be enjoying the heat. Oh well, she has a good few months of gaining to do, with her best slam just round the corner.

To qualify and win a round at the USO must be her goal.

It is her best slam, but the inability to win significantly more than 50% of points on serve over these three matches on hard against opponents below top 100 level is a worry. I don't expect she will need to qualify though as she will presumably use her Special Ranking to enter the main draw, given she hasn't used her 1 slam SR and will be hoping to make future slams directly on ranking

Panova duly drew Erakovic and Anne's day didn't get any better in the doubles. She will be first in line for an LL spot though if one materialises.

Doubles R1

Arvidsson/Larsson (SWE) d. Keothavong/Smith
(GBR) 6-1 6-4
