Alves stops the run of points but cannot prevent the bagel. Anne will play the winner of Alexandra Panova and Aleksandra Krunic in final qualifying, with the Russian seed currently up an early break
I've noticed a few inverse bagels (if that's the right expression ) in women's matches but what seemed bizarre was the transformation from Anne barely winning a point (in the last 3 games of set 2, though Anne may have opted to save herself for set 3 at that point) to barely losing a point.
She's up first again tomorrow at 9am BST - the potential opponents in the main draw if successful are Maja Zec Peskiric, Marina Erakovic, (4) Sara Errani and (7) Polona Hercog. The New Zealander is still working her way back after a long absence from the Tour, so would probably be a good draw, with Errani the toughest prospect.
In doubles Anna is again in a match with Johanna Larsson - but this time on the opposite side of the net. They play later on Monday
Doubles R1
(3)Pavlyuchenkova/Rodionova (RUS/AUS) v Fedak/Vasylyeva (UKR) Arvidsson/Larsson (SWE) v Keothavong/Smith (GBR)
Anne's match has started and there's been 2 breaks of serve already. Anne is trailing *1-2 and currently saving break points in an attempt to hold serve.
