"Oliver Golding served notice of his medal credentials after a stunning 75 63 boys first round upset over top seed and world No. 1 Marton Fucsovics of Hungary. The 16-year-old Briton, the youngest player in the draw, put on a powerful serving display, firing down six aces, the last on match point.
Fucsovics, this years Wimbledon junior champion, missed two sets points on his serve at 5-4 in the opening set, before dropping serve again to concede the set. Golding then broke to lead 5-3 in the second set, before serving out for victory in style.
Golding, the only Briton competing in the tennis event, said afterwards: This is unbelievable, especially to win on this stage in one of the biggest events in a night match on centre court. I am going to take one match at a time, but know that if I play like I did today, I can beat anyone.
A disappointed Fucsovics rued the loss of his two set points in the opening set. He said: He was a little bit lucky on the first set point, and it was the turning point of the match. I didnt play my best tennis today but I tried everything. He was playing well and serving well.
