Slabba has impressed me there. Ianni is the guy with the "trick" serve (not used on matches) that was on video at Dallas last year I think.
I see him as similar ot many journeymen Brits. Ranking flits between 180-400 year by year. No stats to back that up just a feeling I get from the drawsheets I see him on
CH 300 in 2007, the only year he finished in the top 400. He has finished in the 500s for 4 of the last 6 years. So more or less what you thought but 100-200 places worse.
They have met once, in 2006 in Jersey, when Ianni won 4 & 5.

Not sure why JL thought it was Slabba's for the taking when Alex is only ranked just inside 600 and was 0-1 down in the H2H, but I did think he had a decent chance, so that scoreline is very disappointing. This was on clay though, so he was quite brave to go over there in the first place!

A shame as the points start to really increase in theses 15k+H when you go deep in the draw. Alex seems to be really developing his game though, there was a time I thought he was a hard/fast court player only. He's one I think will really move on over the next 2-3 years.
Certainly I do think Slabba has finally been looking a bit better again in the last couple of months or so. That followed six months after he came back from being out for four months, when, for whatever reasons, he basically just could hardly ever get past the L16 of futures and was clearly not performing near the level he has in the past.
He clearly does have quite a lot of supporters and I wish him all the best in at least getting back to where he was ( CH 266 in 2008 ) and that's going to need him to up his level even more and do it fairly consistently. For instance, in the last 9 months, he has only beaten one top 300 player, Josh Goodall who was WR 291 when Slabba beat him at the end of April.
Slabba seems still ambitious to not only get there but go higher. Time will tell on that one.
