Week 28 - Challenger ($75,000) - Aptos, California (Hard)

Alex Bogdanovic (7, GBR) v Richard Bloomfield (SE, GBR)

Inevitable wasn't it?

At least it will be 8 points for a Brit, and maybe more. You've got to fancy Boggo on the hard court.

I guess if Richard is still a bit tired by his efforts might as well be Boggo to take advantage.

As SMC said, you'ed fancy Boggo on hard court anyway.

Its just unreal, but also very predictable!
Yep I agree with all the above comments, Boggo should win this on a hard court.

Well yes he should but this and similar statements have been made about Boggo many times in the past only for reality to strike.

I'm going against the grain and picking Bloomers. Sorry folks!

C'mon the Bloom! :D

Me too. Nothing against Bogdanovic but Bloomfield has a good opportunity to carry momentum and maybe have a great summer and who knows even become one of those late blosomers in tennis.

My hunch is that Boggo will win (as he does against all non Murray brits) and then lose in the next round

Boggo tends to win against non Murray Brits for the very simple reason that he is and has been for quite some time clearly Britain's second best tennis player.

A big trouble for Boggo I feel with folk's attitude to him is that the ranking of the GB no 2 tennis player ( whoever it may be ) is one thing that has for a while reflected badly on GB tennis.

So Boggo for being the poor guy that is good enough to earn that position gets an overamount of stick.  I sometimes even feel it's part of the LTA's problem.  i.e. how dare he be Britain's no 2 and only ranked currently 172,  that he'individually is more of a problem than the general state of GB men's tennis.

By the way if Richard really does continue in very good vein through the rest of the year and indeed improve on what he has done before, the expression must be "late bloomer"  smile

That sentence should end "... except Bloomers" though - the H2H is 2-0 to Richard, both in straight sets, at Glasgow in 2002 and at Surbiton in 2007. I agree with the majority that Boggo should win this one assuming that doesn't play on his mind.

It's the match that should have happened last week had Boggo not lost to Kohlmann.

You would fancy Boggo to win given that except for last week, he has proven to be the better player, and it will be tough for Bloomers to follow up his run in Newport, but Bloomers does have a good record against Boggo and will be full on confidence.

You just know that Beck will get the qualifier spot in this section as well, but if he doesn't, a decent chance that one of them can win a few rounds here.

Have a dilemma on this one.ashamed I've always been a Boggo fan after seeing him play, such a variety of shots but, I do love a comeback kid. Bloomers has certainly lived up to that billing (perhaps not the 'kid' bit) this past week with a super run to the SF. Only consolation, a Brit will get through to the 2nd round.smile

Not forgetting the 6-4 6-4 win by Richard in the Final of the 2001 British Junior Championships.
