Josh's match against Vardhan was a massive struggle. Vardhan served better and was much more consistant from the baseline but Josh's volleys got him through. Vardhan was poor in the first set and Josh would have won it far easier bar for a sloppy game at 3-1 where he got broke. Vardhan was much better in the second set while Josh was pretty poor, or in his own words "useless". Vardhan continued to look the better player at the start of the third set up until 2-2 15-30 when Josh finally seemed to realise that he was going to lose the game if he insisted on staying on the baseline. From then on he served and volleyed on almost every first serve and came to the net at every possible oppurtunity. He broke to lead 4-2, made a hash of serving it out at 5-3 but broke again in the following game (albeit after Vardhan had saved a match point with a second serve ace).
Didn't get to see any of Dan's match as he didn't waste any time.
The Doubles final was a strange match. The wind, which had been bad all day, was very strong and it made for some comical errors and misjudgements. 1st set Chris played well and Josh didn't. Second set the other way round

hi all. ive been reading this forum for a whilenow and yesterday i got the chance to watch these guys in action. i was most impressed with goodall and for me he looked the best with ward looking promising, i was surprised to see goodall at only 370 and ward at 520 but i did notice that 49 of wards 57 points have this year so i guess he will go up more soon.
Cheers for the report RCA. Welcome ghhhhh. I think Alex Ward and Alex Slabinsky are the two Brits that stand out for me as destined to rise up the rankings over the next 2-3 years.
Here I was thinking Josh might be on for a 15-match winning streak by the end of next week, so this is quite a surprise. Well done to Dan, hope he can make this the year when he isn't just a 1 or 2-week wonder. (his 18 points for winning here make up nearly 2/3 of the total points he has picked up so far in 2010)

Great stuff by Dan, it was good to hear earlier in the week good accounts of how well he was playing and it is great for him to land the title.
The drop off in wins that eventually led to his recent big rankings fall certainly began in the second half of last year and he has only 6 points to come off the rest of the year.
This title itself should take him about 160 - 170 places back up the rankings to around the 620s, and if he can build on this he should hopefully soon be back to a more appropriate place in the rankings and ready to push on further.
Good work
