I think high wind may also be something that counts against Laura; she often seems to be affected by it more than her opponent and given the way it is gusting through my office window in Central London, I'd imagine conditions weren't good on court either.
Laura has played OK in windy conditions before, US open Juniors and Aussie open juniors but not so well in Dothan against Gallovits.
She will automatically qualify by ranking for USO qualies now which means she will earn another tournament under the AER rules. Thus as it stands she can compete in 13 tournaments instead of 12 for her 17th year. She has now played 9 tournaments so has a minimum of 4 left to play( US open/ Aus open definites). She therefore assuming she plays next week only has one tournament left to play other than those mentioned before her 17th birthday. If she was to accrue sufficient ranking points from these remaining tournaments and gain direct entry for AO qualies she would also be able to play one further tournament. That would probably be tough though.
She has one WC left which I suspect she will keep up her sleeve in reserve for the Aussie open qualies.
I'm pretty sure also she intends to play the junior Fed Cup assuming we qualify for the finals.
I kind of felt the babos match would be 50-50, but didnt comment as i didnt want to kill the wave of enthusiasm. Not too surprised it went down to a final set tb. Next time, laura could easily come out on top. I also dont buy any of the windy conditions theory. It's always the same for both players.
I'm not so sure laura should eat up her precious tournies playing wrexham next week, but her team will know best.
And I concur with the poster above that she should enter the commonwealths alongside heather. Though I dont think she will, unfortunately.
ps. WELL DONE KATIE. And brave effort by Anna, too.
The field for Wrexham next week is however very weak.
I take it back. GO TO WREXHAM, Laura.
Ps. Stole this stat from someone on TF: "She's now lost her last 7 tiebreaks at senior level. The last one he won was against Kerber in Barnstaple 2008. I don't think it's anything to worry about, however.

With tie-breaks she can struggle, one notable exception being the Hopman Cup final. I wouldn't be surprised if she served at least one DF in todays TB as she lost 5 out of her 6 service points in the TB. She was only broken 3 out of 15 times for the whole match before that.

Don't worry about coming in with alternative thoughts. It's good to hear different views and in this case you wouldn't have been alone.
Personally I made Laura a fairly clear favourite and the fact that she lost doesn't change my view that that was a fair call Though I accept these that thought it more a 50 / 50 match will feel more vindicated.
I wasn't particulary aware that Laura had had problems in windy conditions before, but some players are affected differently by some conditions, and if someone feels a player does tend to be generally more affected more by wind, heat or whatever than other players it's fair to comment on it in discussing reasons for a loss. It's not really an excuse, since as you say its the same for both players and it's for players to learn to play in different conditions, but a possible part of the explanation.

By your logic the playing surface would make no difference either - if both players were on the same surface why take it into consideration?
Wind can affect two players very differently in the same way the higher bounce of a clay court does
