Thank God Katie's result's been confirmed on the LTA site.
In the doubles, Jos is still keeping the Union flag flying:
SF: Nigina Abduraimova & Tammi Patterson (UZB/AUS) lost to (3) Jos Rae & Emelyn Starr (AUS) WR 509 by 3-6 6-4 [3-10] SF: Miyabi Inoue & Sachie Ishizu (JPN/JPN) lost to Timea Babos & Emma Laine (HUN/FIN) WR 685 by 2 & 4
It seems there's been no escaping Laine and/or Babos this week:
Final: (3) Jos Rae & Emelyn Starr (AUS) WR 509 vsTimea Babos & Emma Laine (HUN/FIN) WR 685
Looking at ages, I notice that Bally and Anne K, whilst still just 26, are GB's oldest ranked players and that there are only six GB ranked players older than Katie. Indeed there are only 9 ( out of 29 in total ) who are older than 21.
There seem to many quite a bit older ranked players in other countries compared to GB.
Wondering about reasons. Are GB players just less willing to stick with things unless they are making really significant progress like Bally / Anne / Katie or is it a question of how they are supported ? Anyone got any thoughts ?
Clearly Sarah Borwell has found success in doubles but seems others have just drifted away.

I thought the age stats might be similar for other countries, but we do have slightly fewer older players than most.
Out of 1087 ranked players there are 266 older than Katie, 271 aged over 21 but no older than Katie and 550 under 21. On a pro-rata basis this would equate to 7,7, and 15 Brits whereas we have 6,6 and 17. However the difference is not a significant one unless repeated over a number of years. It's hard to make a living if you are below 250 for a prolonged period so it is inevitable that many will opt for university, playing part-time or other full-time employment
have no idea where to post this, but sarah borwell won her sets in world team tennis last night, teaming up with scoville jenkins and martina hingis. http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/20100717_Freedoms_lose_to_New_York_Buzz.html
Well done to Babos. Pity for Katie who at least got quite a few matches under her belt. Looks as if she is still battling to regain her best form but at least she picked up some decent ranking points this week, and she has a few low scores in her top 16 that it would be nice to replace with much better ones.
From the account of the Babos / Robson QF match I do get the feeling that this was a real chance lost for Laura this week and if she had kept her composure more she could well have won that match and moved on rather than lost it so narrowly.

Interesting. Thanks, David. Not that much divergence, I'd just somehow imagined that the overall ranking list was more weighted to older players than it evidently is.
