When bookies lose money they are always going to look for a scapegoat and any excuse for not paying out.

It's not the bookies who are complaining it's an impartial broker who alerted the authorities to unusual betting patterns. That's assuming there's any substance to the reports anyway.

Betfair also lay alot of their own money on these markets. At the same time as providing a betting exchange, they are also acting as bookmakers.

Sorry had never heard that. Why did they seem to drag their heels over investigating "stings" in the past then?Is it a recent change?

Doesn't seem to fit their IIRC stated no risk business plan to me,but given their success I'm sure they know what they're up to.

Edited to add http://www.techdigest.tv/2010/01/interview_betfa.html the CEO in January said they merely act as brokers so it must be a recent change unless you reckon he's stretching the truth.I couldn't quickly find a more recent change of that position.

Didn't know they had dragged their heels in the past.
If you watch their in running prices on live events all the prices available are suspended at the same time giving credence to the notion that they do lay their own money. Otherwise the prices shown on the screen would disappear at differing intervals.

I haven't bet there for a while as having withdrawn most of my residual profit I had a run of losses and never got round to reinvesting what I'd taken out.Sounds fishy I admit.

Sorry for my edit happening after your post.

Betfair also charge winning clients an additional surcharge of up to 20% on winning bets on top of the basic commission. Clearly not wanting to attract winning punters as they probably do lay their own money.

Good to see Bloomers given a bit of a profile on the ATP website after his run this week.
