Flemski's coming home ...

Since it's beginning to look like Boggo may not actually be coming home (for DC) for quite a while, I was thinking on the way home from Wimbledon yesterday that it might be time for a rewrite of my infamous version of a certain football song, so here it is. I've replaced another section of the original (the one in blue) with more tennis-specific stuff this time - whether that's an improvement or not, I'll leave you to judge!

(to the tune of 'Three Lions' with profuse apologies to Baddiel, Skinner & The Lightning Seeds ...)

They're coming home
They're coming home
They're coming
Flemski's coming home ... (repeat x 4)

They've been away on tour all year
But now they're right back here
On the grass
Time to cheer

Cos Colin's gonna serve bombs all day
Ken'll volley away
We all know they can play
And just re-mem-ber ...

G B on a shirt
Davis Cup still gleaming
74 years of hurt
Never stopped us dreaming

So many jokes, so many sneers
But all those not-so-nears
Wear you down
Through the years

But I still see that volley by Hughes
And when Perry beat Quist
Bunny belting the ball
And Tuckey dancing (*)

G B on a shirt
Davis Cup still gleaming
74 years of hurt
Never stopped us dreaming

Now I know that was then
But it could be again

Because ...
Flemski's coming home
They're coming
Flemski's coming home...

They're coming home
They're coming home
They're coming
Flemski's coming home ...

(*) You'll know who (Fred) Perry and Bunny (Austin) were, but Patrick Hughes and Raymond Tuckey were the doubles pairing in the 3-2 win against the Aussies in the 1936 Davis Cup Final.

Now all we need are Colin's Stirling Uni mates to help us sing it ... wink

P.S. Before anyone feels the need to say it, yes it probably should be "Flemski are coming home" but that doesn't work and I don't care. smile

Also, I know '74' doesn't scan either, but if you sing it fast you can get away with it, and the alternative "all those years of hurt" that they used in the football versions post-1996 always seemed so naff to me ...
