Week 27 Futures - Great Britain F9 ($10k) - Ilkley (grass)

QF: Josh Goodall (Gbr) beat Dominic Inglot (Gbr) 6-3 6-4
QF: George Morgan (Gbr) beat Colin Ebelthite (Aus) 3-6 7-6(6) 6-4 biggrin
QF: Marcus Willis (Gbr) beat Daniel Evans (Gbr) 6-0 6-7 (5) 7-6 (5)

SF: Josh Goodall (Gbr) v Marcus Willis (Gbr)

The BBC seem to think Josh v BBD and George v Colin were R2 matches! Perhaps they couldn't believe George was in the QF!

Great win by George, but to be fair if he is the player we want him to be i.e top 100/200 he needs to be winning matches like this given it won't be that long before he turns 18.

Ebelthite had the trainer on after winning the first set, with what looked like a shoulder problem.
However it didn't really seem to affect his game.

Well done to George....would be nice to see a 17 year old Brit win a Futures. Its a big ask but he can certainly beat Dr No.

Murray won a futures when he was 16 I think...yes it was GB F10 Sept 2003 (Beat a certain R Bloomfield in R1 and then best Darcis in the final)

It'll be interesting to see what the Final turns out to be given that Morgan seems to be on a roll and Marcus beat Josh 7-6(5) 7-6(2) in their previous meeting in Eilat a few months ago. I'd expect Josh to win tomorrow though, I think.

In the whole of the main draw here, only one Brit has lost to a non-Brit (10-1, with the only loss Eaton's R1 retirement), so we've picked up very nearly the largest total points haul that was possible given the draw!
