QR2: CAUVARD, Simon (FRA) 9 WR 1538 beat BROWN, Paul (GBR) UNR 6-2 6-3 cry

R1: SMETHURST, Daniel (GBR) 1 WR 351 v (Q) CAUVARD, Simon (FRA) WR 1538

Dan's first real challenge should come in the semi-final, where he's likely to meet the Wardinator's conqueror from last week, Fabrice Martin.

Does anyone know why Dan is playing out in Spain whilst there are UK based tournaments going on?

I imagine it's do with the fact that the UK events are on a grass court, and it's a surface that he doesn't feel comfortable on.

And he's found an event where he is the top seed anyway, so should end up getting more points from this tournament.

Maybe Paul will have a bit more luck in the doubles:

R1:  (WC) Arkaitz Manzarbeitia & Iván Rodrigo (ESP/ESP) UNR vs Iñaki Belloso (ESP) & Paul Brown UNR

Fingers crossed, anyway...

I suspect Dan may find R1 challenging. Close 3 set win for me

Any reason why you suspected this would be a tough match? Seems like a simple straight sets win against a guy ranked over 1000 places lower. Is Cauvard under ranked?
