Good stuff Bloomers...I think this is his first win at tour level since Wimbledon 2006
I think it might be his ONLY other win at tour level apart from the Wimbledon win??????
That's right. He did reach R2 at Washington ATP in 2005, but that was because he got a seeded player's place as a lucky loser, so got a R1 bye. In R2, he lost to Arnaud Clément 9-7 in a 3rd set tiebreak.
This is the 11th ATP/slam main draw Richard has played in (W 1 L 4 at Wimbledon, W 0 L 2 at Queen's, W 0 L 2 at Nottingham, W 0 L 1 at Washington and W 0 L 1 at Marseille before this) but only the third time he has managed to qualify after Queen's 2008 and Marseille 2009.

Great for Bloomers to capitalise on what was a great draw and get the win he deserved, and hopefully he can carry on this form and beat Giraldo, although it will be a tough match for him.
:re the Slabba match... Slabba unofficially did beat Giraldo as on one of his match points, Giraldo hit a ball long that wasn't called out, so if the line judges had done their job that day, Slabba would have won.
FD are you remembering it correct? I thought Giraldo hit it out his own match point he converted, so Slabba refused to shake hands for a while. I thought the match point Slabba had was like a 20 shot slugging rally before he hit the ball well long

Maybe so...but I think some point in that rally Giraldo hit a ball long that wasn't called out.
I know that on the eventual match point Giraldo's ace was definately out.
Gone back through the archives to remember what I actually posted at the time....
It wasn't on a match point but at 5-5 in the tiebreak where Giraldo hit a ball that was clearly long but wasn't called, and given that Slabba hit aces on his next 3 serves, it was a virtual match point.
Things are not looking too promising for Hutch & Kerr at the moment in their first-round doubles match against Jonathan Erlich & Scott Lipsky (ISR/USA): they dropped the first set by 3-6 & are a break down in the second (1-2*).
There is a stream Querrey v Brown on 'centre' court. You can see how ridiculous the courts must be, there aren't even any doubles tramlines on one side and on the other side the baselines just extend onwards. Hopefully the link will be useful later on in the week.
The crappy surface in Newport clearly didn't agree with Hutch & Kerr, but Jamie & Jonny are making a better fist of it: 7-6(3) *1-2... Obviously broken back in the first set, but at least they took the tie-break.
