Which he converts! 19 aces with a FSP of 52%. Rochus must have been flailing at it.

7-6 6-3 - 2 breaks of serve in set two and 32 ranking points?

Is he defending any this week?

GSM 7-6(7-1) 6-3. Great win and a precious haul of 20 points. (In addition to the 12 he already had in his grasp of course)

Giraldo up next....if he could find a way through that then it's Harrison or Kudla in the Q/F's!!!

Before this week, his YTD prize money was just $1906. I'm sure the $7260 so far for this event will be very welcome.

Brilliant biggrin Lovely to see some success for Bloomers at last after all his problems recently. This run at Newport will take him up about 120 places into the 430s smile

And guess who the only Brit ever to have beaten Giraldo is? ... that'll be Richard smile who beat him 5 & 2 on grass in Nottingham ATP qualifying way back in 2005, admittedly when Richard was ranked 355 and Giraldo was ranked 566.

Giraldo's recent form on grass includes a 16-14 final set loss to de Bakker in R1 at Wimbledon, QFs in Rosmalen (beating Chiudinelli and Troicki before losing to Stakh) and R2 at Queen's, beating Korolev before losing to Fish. He beat Slabba in Queen's qualifying last year, but only 10-8 in a final set tiebreak.

Ouch, sounds like a nasty next round. Still, well done for getting this far after what seems like a long time out.

Me and F-D watched that match against Slabba, one Slabba really should have won although it was played indoors due to the rain that day. Clearly he has improved a lot this year but if Bloomers can come through he should be the favourite to reach the semis. I also watched his 2nd round qualifying match against Mahut after he beat Slabba where he ended up chucking a bottle of water around and was punished with a game penalty, so maybe he'll lose his cool if Bloomers can get ahead early on!

Good stuff Bloomers...I think this is his first win at tour level since Wimbledon 2006
