Much closer than it should have been for Evo but at least he won the match and kept his hopes alive.

Expected wins for Baker, Ward and Rice, although a disappointing loss for Milton who just does not seem to be able to get past a second round at the moment.

Baker's looks rather tighter than it should have been too.  Tiebreak in 2nd set  hmm.gif

evosmile at least got the win, would love him to win this event, really send a message to the lta who aren't giving him anything, GB tennis is bad enough, so what do we do, write off a potential top 100 player.

Not sure if Top 100 is realistic for him yet. He needs to hit the ball a lot harder for a start.

Just got back from Manchester...only saw the start of the doubles as wanted to watch the end of Murray.

Firstly the last score not posted - Slabba lost in 3 sets (6-1 3-6 6-1 IIRC)

Milton's loss was a disappointment - The umpiring got to him from an early stage and he never got over it. If he had concentrated on the match instead of trying to get the umpire changed then who knows the result may have been different.

As a general point the level of respect towards officials from all players was pretty low. They are never going to change their minds so no point wasting energy moaning about it.

Baker should have won more convincingly. He was 3-0 up second set before throwing in a couple of bad games.

Evo's game was a bit of a battle and he came well to come through after taking a medical timeout after a slip (perhaps Ankle)

Lots of organisation points as well which really do make it no surprise that we don't produce the amount of players we should. This is the perfect kind of event to get kids involved somehow (as you are so intimate with the players) and yet the spectators were easily outnumbered by the Umpires let alone the players

Anything other than a British winner of this event would be a very huge disappointment given that Baker, Ward, Evans, Goodall etc are the class apart in this field.

Would hope to see Ward or Baker take the title to have some good grass court form going into the Davis Cup tie, and it would also be a bit embarassing for them to be selected if they are losing to other Brits.

Although, I wouldn't be surprised to see Baker lose to Slabba if they met, and both Goodall/Evans could trouble Ward if they play their best and Ward isn't in his Eastbourne form.

And watch out for a certain Mr Grigelis (6)... wink

QF: (1/WC) Jamie Baker WR 253 v. (6) Laurynas Girgelis (LTU) WR 444
QF: (4) Vishnu Vardhan (IND) WR 365 v. (7) David Rice WR 489

QF: (6) Josh Goodall WR 397 v. (3/Q) Dan Evans WR 325
QF: Divij Sharan (IND) WR 878 v. (2) James Ward WR 304

Of the projected 6, only 5 could make it, not too surprising about Milts after how much he struggles in R1.

Of the 5 reamining, 3 are ranked to make the SF's, Would be cool to see an all-brit SF tho :)
