My advice for Jamie: Let Laura handle the, you know, post-match interview.

Seems wise you know being more offensive than anything Laura's said to most people.

My advice to him is never play with an English player or every error will be your fault, whoever's racket it came off.

His partner won or Jamie lost, again.I get that she's going to be a far far better player but this rubbish about Jamie being carried or losing every time is still getting up my nose. The idea Laura single handedly won every match by carrying Peers at the AO is ludicrous too.

The stats aren't good though, he splits with Butorac who has been permanently inside the top 50 for over a year while Jamie goes the opposite way.  After a dodgy year with Mirnyi, Jamie drops out the top 100 and Max is back in the top 20.  I'm not a huge fan and haven't watched enough of his matches to know whether he is being carried or not but the bare facts don't make good reading for him.  It's good that he's found a partner seemingly more on his level in Jonny and he can begin to make a name for himself and not just feed off Andy's success.

Butorac hasn't had as successful a partnership without Jamie as he had with him though, has he?He was also older than Jamie is now when they joined forces and he'd not done much.Jankovic has never had much success in doubles except their mixed win.Liezel Huber clearly thinks something's gone wrong with Jamie rather than a lack of talent given that she went from warning others off from poaching him(albeit humorously) to not partnering him.

Mirnyi was too good for Jamie and that clearly affected their results. In a way though that shows how ridiculous the idea of him being carried to what success he's had is.The gap in performance was so big that they performed worse than when Jamie had inferior partners. If they could carry him a multiple GS champion sure as hell should have been able to.Mirnyi also had an appalling year in singles so it's possible he was in poor form and that was exacerbating things. His doubles ranking was17 at his last tournament in 07, 27 when he ended 2008 by losing to Jamie and Vizner post split,12 months later it was 13.In singles he went from 57 to 145 playing 22 tournies in 07,in 08 13 tournies ranked 373,in 09 he quit singles. All ranks at last match of season.Mirnyi and Murray would have improved for Max getting his studies finished and abandoning singles,so not all of his improvement is due to shedding Jamie.

To me he looks inhibited on court ATM,he isn't using his strengths such as anticipation, reach, and reflexes to compensate for his deficiencies such as his ground strokes.I still believe he's a better doubles player if he gets it together than Colin Fleming, although an inferior singles player.

Butorac is currently ranked 36, and reached a career high of 29 earlier in the year, so he's having the best year of his life in terms of ranking.

Also reached the QF's of the Aussie Open with Rajeev Ram at the start of the year, which is a better result than Jamie and him ever had, so it would be unfair to say that he hasn't had much success since splitting up.

I think Jamie is a solid top 50 player but he needs to find the right partnership to get him there and find a partner who is a good returner and a pretty good on the groundstrokes to complement the fact Jamie has a decent serve and good volleys.

The partnership with Mirnyi was flawed due to the fact that they were the both the same time of player and never really worked, while Butorac had enough difference in his game to complement Murray.

His partnership with Marray at the moment is working quite well and they have had some good results at the challenger level, but haven't stepped it up to the ATP level at all. In fact, he has only won two matches at ATP level in 14 months, and one of them was partnering Andy Murray.

Him and Marray are 0-6 at ATP level this year with losses to Kohlmann/Peya, Dodig/Moser, Hutchins/Kerr, Greul/Luczak, Golubev/Seppi and Nestor/Zimonjic. Of those 6 pairs, Dodig/Moser, Greul/Luczak and Golubev/Seppi were all matches they definately should have won, while the way Nestor/Zimonjic are struggling against Eaton/Inglot, maybe they should have that as well, as they better doubles players than them.

If Jamie can find the right partner (be it with Marray with an improvement in their results at ATP level) or someone else, then he can get back to the ranking he was with Butorac and go beyond it, but I bet probably regrets splitting up so soon considering what has happened since then.

I meant that Butorac hasn't had as much success in terms of winning titles in a particular partnership as with Jamie, not to imply a general lack of success.

I don't think he will turn it round TBH.A year ago I thought he'd try to move into TV by the end of this year,I still think it could happen, just a bit more slowly.

He shouldn't have agreed to Butorac's suggestion they split and he should have made it clear that was what happened straight away.I think the negative press over him "dumping" Booty is something he could have avoided and that has damaged his form ever since.I think he needs to get really lucky and get a back court player who's ready to focus on doubles to get to the level I believed he would i.e. top 25.

Skupski and Baltacha do complete a very easy first round win, winning 6-2, 6-3 against Mertinak/Hlavackova.

And just to put the icing on the cake, not to be outdone, the other half of Flemski has just had a reasonably comfortable win with Sarah B over Christopher Kas & Vania King (GER/USA) by 3 & 4. thumbsup.gif

Col & Sarah play the top seeds, Nenad Zimonjic ( wink ) & Sam Stosur, in the third round...

Good, if expected, win for Fleming and Borwell, although it will be tough for them to go much further.

Zimonjic/Stosur in the next round won't be easy, and if they win that, either Ram/Vesnina or Malisse/Clijsters to follow.

Marray/Smith have taken the first set against Matkowski/Garbin on the tiebreak, winning it 8-6, having been 6-3 down, and a break down earlier in the set.

Were they to hold on, they will face Dmitry Tursunov and Vera Dushevina, who beat the 3rd seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Liezel Huber 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
