Week 25 and 26 - Wimbledon 2010 - Mixed Doubles

Plenty of British interest in the Mixed Doubles draw that was out today, although maybe not as much as in previous years with two of the WC's going to Bob Bryan/Lindsay Davenport and Xavier Malisse and Kim Clijsters.

Colin Fleming/Sarah Borwell vs. Christopher Kas/Vania King - winner to play (1) Nemad Zimonjic/Sam Stosur
Jamie Murray/Laura Robson vs. Andre Sa/Vera Zvonereva - winner to play (9) Lukas Dlouhy/Iveta Benesova
Jonny Marray/Anna Smith vs. Dick Norman/Yanina Wickmayer - winner to play (16) Marcin Matkowski/Tathiana Garbain
Ken Skupski/Elena Baltacha vs. Michal Mertinak/Andrea Hlavackova - winner to play (5) Mark Knowles/Katarina Srebotnik
Ross Hutchins/Anne Keothavong vs. David Marrero/Alexandra Dulgheru - winner to play (12) Paul Hanley/Yung-Jan Chan

Fleming/Borwell, Skupski/Baltacha and Hutchins/Keothavong all should win their opening matches, and would fancy Murray/Robson to win as well.

They're playing a handful of matches tomorrow including Jonny/Anna 4th on court 6 (Jonny also playing with Jamie second on this court)

Marray/Smith, who I had down as the least likely team to win round one, have taken the first set 6-3 against Norman and Wickmayer.

Hutchins/Keothavong 4-2 down in the first set though.

Boggo and Mel entered again for this but were turned down.

Very winnable match for Hutchins/Keothavong so a disappointment to see them lose that.

Looking pretty decent for Marray/Smith though, and serving first in the set as well, so all the pressure would be on the Belgian pair.

Obviously Murray/Robson would get centre court and hopefully they can thrive under that pressure.

My advice for Jamie: Let Laura handle the, you know, post-match interview.

Marray and Smith win 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

Great win for the pair against what should on paper have been a good team and a chance in the next round as well against the 16th seeds.

Seems wise you know being more offensive than anything Laura's said to most people.

My advice to him is never play with an English player or every error will be your fault, whoever's racket it came off.

His partner won or Jamie lost, again.I get that she's going to be a far far better player but this rubbish about Jamie being carried or losing every time is still getting up my nose. The idea Laura single handedly won every match by carrying Peers at the AO is ludicrous too.

Laura lost serve early and Jamie played a wretched game to drop his serve to love and with it the set;

Murray/Robson 3-6*

Do you think they could call a medical timeout and get a surgeon to graft the top half of Laura's body onto the bottom half of Jamie's?

3 minutes might be a bit tight I suppose...

smc: I really don't want to know! Sounds scary...

Jamie was starting to come good at the end, but I think even if they had both been on form, they would have struggled against that opposition.

Jamie didn't seem to have much positive body language out there and didn't as Andy had done at the HC really help Laura with a bit of humourous banter. He looked very resigned to defeat early on.

Mind you the Russian girl was exceptional so they would have struggled even if they had brought their 'A' game. Marginally concerned that during the changeovers Laura seemed to be tending to her left forearm a bit. Hopefully no reoccurence of her left wrist problems she developed at the Aussie Open.
