RE: Wimbledon 2010 'Battle of the Boards' pick 'em contest

Well, I've just picked up points from Rafa beating Andy, and I can still pick up even more points if Rafa wins the tourney; but I'm not happy about it.

Steven's been at the matches today, so we may not hear anything from him till late tonight.

Yes, very dissappointing, but given that Rafa has unfortunately put Andy out, for the sake of my pickem, Rafa needs to go and win this now and give me a top ten spot just to ease the pain for me.

Steven, is there any chance that I'll hold onto my number one ranking if Nadal wins tomorrow? I'm defending quite a lot of points from last year annoyingly!

I'm afraid not - Scotsguy in 2nd and Shabba in 4th weren't defending any points and have both done well, so I think they'll both overtake you. The other two people in the current top 9 who are on for top 60 finishes (me and t12j23r90) are both defending even higher finishes than last year, so we're not a threat, but I haven't checked whether anyone lower down the rankings is defending so few points and likely to score so many that they might be threat instead.

2010 WIMBLEDON BOTB - DAY 11 'SYNDICATED' REPORT

Semi-final wins for 60% pick Rafa and 1% pick Berdych decided the top three in the individual. I'll set out here the possibilities for the top 10 at the end of the tournament but this will be the last BOTB report before the report on the new overall rankings when I get around to having a chance to do them.

Detailed results, lists of everyone's picks and so on can be found at http://www.freewebs.com/britishtennis/Competitions.html.

TEAMS

World no. 1s TAT had already made sure of winning the teams league before the semis and are going to win by at least 3 points (which is a lot!) or maybe even by more than 4 points if Rafa takes the title. World no. 2s BT.net will finish 2nd if Berdych wins but will be overhauled by 0.06 points by MTL (in their first BOTB as a full team) if Rafa wins, in which case they will have the top unadjusted average the Final, after doing the same in rounds 2, 3 & 4.

World no. 6s MTF and world no. 5s Rusedski.co.uk, up 2 after the semis, will finish 4th and 5th whatever the outcome of the Final.

The only other teams that moved more than one place on Friday were Team CC, up 2 to 6th (but they will plummet 4 places to 10th if Rafa wins), GBTG, up 2 to 10th after winning the SF round, and JM.org & AM.com, both down 2 to 7th & 8th respectively, though the latter will regain 6th place if Rafa wins the title.

The lowest scorers in the SF round were the Daily Forehand, who stayed in the penultimate place. Debutants NewBallsPlease will remain the lanternes rouges (somewhat topical this weekend with the TdF starting!) if Berdych wins, but a Rafa win will see last year's Wimbledon BOTB winners the Feddies swapping places with them.

INDIVIDUALS

Congratulations to jesswrig (TA), motobass (TA), Gillyflower (GR) & Drop-shot (TA) (the latter two up 1 on Friday) who will finish as the top four in that order whoever wins the Final, though all four of them will get an extra 35 ranking points if Rafa wins.

JTContinental (TA), up 3 to 5th on Friday, The Mayor of Tennisopolis (TN), up 3 to 6th, and cazza99 (AM) & Smidster (BT), both up 4 to 8=, will all drop out of the top 15 if Rafa wins.

In that case (i.e. a Rafa win), kayce (JM), up 3 to 7th after the SFs, and DJ (MP), up 5 to 10th, will move up to 5th and 6th respectively, with nerdhooligan (NB), up 5 to 11th after the SFs, Ivanatis (MT), up 58 to 16th, eblunt (BT), up 5 to 18th, and Jackobeanz (NB), up 7 to 25th, slotting into the remaining places in the top 10 in that order.

ON THE RISE

Three entrants managed to get both finalists correct, which was some feat - they are Ivanatis (MT), up 58 to 16th (and up to 8th if Rafa wins the Final), riser of the day Ifaslin (NB), up 113 to 70th, and ghandi (GR), up 100 to 259th.

DODGY DROPPERS

168 entrants failed to get either finalist correct and the biggest faller among them was Nevets (CC), down 75 to 191st, closely followed by Puschkin (RG), down 72 to 176th, Sound (AM), down 72 to 177th, bumfluff (TW) & waylandboy-tw (TA), both down 72 to 193rd, and Jack (BT), down 72 to 208th.

The lanterne rouge by a long way and still deep in the gorillas' cage is JCF-to-win picker Redshank.girl (IN), more than 20 points adrift of the gorillas and 67 points behind the back of the peloton.

Former world no. 4 (under a different name) Brooks (RF), the guy who picked Chela, described by TAT as "the most 'legit' worst pick ever in BOTB", managed to avoid the bottom four, while Petzschner's Left Thumb (IN) managed to avoid the bottom 50 after finishing last the first two times he picked his hero to win the title. Indeed as well as pushing Rafa close in the singles, PP did actually win the men's doubles, prompting the following classic self-censored tweet (from Philipp himself, not his thumb) "Sorry but i ve to say i *c*king won wimbledon!omg."

TEAM KO FINALS

FINAL: (14) AndyMurray.com lead (8) MyTennisLounge.com 12.95-10.63
3-4: (13) BBC 606 boards lead (15) AndyRoddick.com 12.57-9.75
5-6: (7) Centre Court Forum lead (16) RogerFederer.com 13.16-9.65
7-8: (6) GBTennisGirls.com lead (12) The Daily Forehand 13.8-7.29
9-10: (11) Tennisopolis.com lead (5) RichardGasquet.net 12.07-9.54
11-12: (10) JamieMurray.org lead (1) BritishTennis.net 14.5-13.64
13-14: (4) Rusedski.co.uk lead (2) TalkAboutTennis 14.5-13.08
15-16: (3) MensTennisForums lead (9) NewBallsPlease 13.56-10.08

All of the current leaders will win whatever happens in the Final, only the margins of victory can still change.

SUNDAY'S PICK %s

(2) Rafa 28% v (12) Berdych 0% (nobody)

Rafa-to-win pickers will fill the top 15 places if he does win.

THE NEXT BOTB

The next pick 'em will be for either Toronto (which starts on 9 Aug) or Cincy (16 Aug) - which one it will be will depend on whether/when I manage to get away in August and I will confirm which it will be on the main competitions page by the end of July.

Hen in 19th looks a threat - due to go up about 400 pts to 4400+  pts, certainly top 3 potential.

Well it was good while it lasted!
My intention is defend the points I have this year, then go for it at the Aussie open, where I was rubbish.
I feel like Boggo, planning his assault on the top 100!!!

Come on Berdbrain, prevent me from dropping toooo far down the rankings. (tho apart from that, as with the women's Final, I couldn't care less who wins - of course it's always fun when Rafa or Serena lose)

Tomas is either going to attack the net today and show that Rafa doesn't like it up 'im, thus showing Andy the way to play against him, or he's going to turn back into Berdbrain and Rafa's going to walk all over him.

Care to venture a number-of-sets-and-winner prediction, steven?

I was going to bet you a punnet of strawberries on it, but you've not ventured a guess!

I say Rafa in three.
