Assuming Heather doesn't suffer from nerves will have a good chance of beating Oprandi.
Bally as close a certainty to a win as you could get.
Anne has a reasonable chance but her opponent is the favourite.
Mel/Katie not bad draws but not likely to win.
Laura at least won't be hit off the court and if she can play to the same high level as last year will certainly give Jankovic a fright.

Some very winnable matches and although two of them have 0-1 H2Hs against their opponents, Heather, Elena, Mel and Anne couldn't really have hoped for much better without getting Eaton-style lucky.

Heather should have a good chance against (Q) Oprandi ranked 140 given her Eastbourne form

Mel is 0-1 against Kulikova WR 69 (6 & 1, Surbiton 2008)

Anne is 0-1 against Rodionova WR 76 (6-1 3-6 6-3 Miami Q 2008)

Elena gets a lower ranked opponent - Martic is WR 77

Katie v Bondarenko WR 29 is tougher, obviously

Even Laura v JJ could be fun - Jamie M's new Wimbledon mixed doubles partner against his old one!

Cut and Paste from BBC website

"Heather Watson, the 18-year-old US Open junior champion, meets Romina Oprandi in her opening match, while British number one Elena Baltacha has a tough test against Alona Bondarenko.

Anne Keothavong will play Anastasia Rodionova, Katie O'Brien takes on Petra Martic, and Melanie South is up against Regina Kulikova."

Spot the difference

BBC have corrected that now to the info on this site... they really are rubbish sometimes...

..... Elena Baltacha takes on Petra Martic of Croatia. Anne Keothavong will play Australian Anastasia Rodionova, Katie O'Brien has a tough test against 28th seed Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine, and Melanie South is up against Russia's Regina Kulikova...........

Not sure if you wrote that down while listening to the draw (I was still asleep so missed it bleh) but they have actually drawn Hradecka and Hlavackova who will be going for the triple Brit bash having beaten Lisa and Cav

Doubles draw with the help of it being written down rather than listening to some dodgy pronounciation:

Broady / KOB v Hlavackova / Hradecka (CZE)

Bally / Savchuk (UKR) v Kulikova (RUS) / Sevastova (LAT)

Cav / Smith v Georges (GER) / Szavay (HUN)

Rae / Watson v Dellacqua / Molik (AUS)

Anne / Mel v Mirza (IND) / Wozniacki (DEN)

Robson / Peers v Kanepi (EST) / Zhang (CHN)

Borops v Martinez Sanchez / Vives (ESP) number 2 seeds

Good chances for Elena and Heather to get wins with the nice draws they have got. (And Heather could even get to the 3rd round) Chances for Mel and Anne to win as well if they can play to their best. Very tough draws for Laura and Katie and don't expect them to get through.

On the whole though, the kind of draw you would expect the Brits to get with a few tough matches, but a few easy matches as well.

Is it just me who thinks the whole draw is very bottom heavy with pretty much everyone who could realistically do well in the event in the bottom half, except obviously for Serena?

Sharapova is top half too. Agree that on the balance its not too bad.

Jankovic is a rough draw but she hasnt played on the grass yet I dont think? And Laura will love the chance to play on CC so could still be a good match.

Like Heather and Elena's draw, seems their good form in Eastbourne has been rewarded. Mels opponent retired 1st round Bham and is on a 3 match loss streak so has no grass wins under her belt and may be struggling with injury so a fighting chance there surely.

Martic v Bally may be closer than we think, but Martic hasnt won a tour level match since march so the confidence levels are miles apart. Bartoli is in good form, chance to check her out in a bit v Azarenka.

Mel and Bally have done well vs Alona in the last 2 years, so if Katie were in form I would give her a shot, but that said I dont see her managing much unless shes back at her best. somehow.

Reasonable to hope for 3 in R2, with 2 being average and less than 2 being dissapointing?

Serena* :p

MLDB has been a bit of a no-show this year which surprises me considering her hype.

Not sure where they'll play Laura's match as Venus, Kim and Justine will merit a show court as well.
First up on court 2 again ?

Surely nooo way Jankovic ( no 4 seed ) vs Robson ( Britain's brightest young star ) can go to No 2 court.

Yes, if there are only 2 or 3 women's matches on Centre and No 1 something has to give and to my mind that would certanly be Henin vs Sevastova before Jankovic vs Robson, great as it is to see Henin back.

I know there were some err interesting Eastbourne scheduling choices, but in this case I serioiusly cannot see Jankovic vs Robson not being on one of the two main show courts.
