Laura is in the main draw, and Sally Peers is in Qualifying. I wonder if they will get the opportunity to get some doubles practice in before Wimbledon?
really hoping for a winnable draw, wimbledon will be the really big one, because i think a win is 100 points!!, the difference the luck of the draw makes really matters
It also could have been alot kinder. As expected Laura plays with Sally in doubles for which they have a great first round draw followed by the number 1 seeds in the second round. Borops play the number 3 seeds in the first round.
David would you say this was an easier draw than Voegele last week ?
Similar. Voegele came over to Surbiton qualies in 2008 determined to learn how to play on grass. Although there were some dark mutterings apparently according to an observer (she lost to Naomi Broady) she learnt enough to be successful last year (finalist in Nottingham and QF Birmingham), giving her a better record on grass than Cibulkova. However her confidence must be affected by the number of first-round losses she has had, and though Dom hasn't had a great year I think the pluses and minuses roughly cancel each other out. Dom likes to grind out long points, so Laura may frustrate her if she can set up quick points on serve regularly.
Thanks David. There obviously were kinder draws but still grounds for real hope here. The bookies made Laura marginal favourite against Voegele last week so without doubt a winnable match.
Laura not hanging around, first up tomorrow at 10am our time. According to Bet365 live streaming schedule they are covering WTA Rosmalen from 10 tomorrow, so may get pictures of her match.
Tad disappointing from Laura for which I would rate this a 5/10 performance. Didn't seem as mentally up for this match as she could have been. As a result made alot of unforced errors which she wouldn't normally make. Cibulkova was very determined and was able to make more balls back into court which eventually would lead to a mistake from Laura. On the positive side the serve was very good and for both breaks Laura came back from 15-40 to deuce before losing the game. I expect to see and you will see a much more pumped up Laura next week.
