In the doubles first round Flemski have claimed a good win over the third seeds Knowle/Ram (AUT/ISR) by 6-4 7-6(5) (only one break in the match)

Fabulous win for the boys. biggrin Have to confess I've been distracted by the WC today... ashamed

Now, if Baker and Ward can make it past Almagro and Schwank it could be very interesting.wink

Super win for Col and Ken.clap.gif

A little bit disappointed that Jamie couldn't finish the match off as going into the 3rd set he looked the better player and was convinced he would get the win.

Dolgopolov has the potential to be a handy grass court player as he has a big serve and hits the ball quite hard, but also has this strange looking backhand slice which loops up very high and caused Baker a few problems in the first set, but he stopped playing it after that.

Baker should really have broken at 0-40 in the final set but missed two of three returns and the one he got in was just pushed in the middle of the court, and then he played a poor game afterwards to get broken straight away. And then he seemed to just fall apart and tried to hit the ball as hard as possible rather than trying to get back into the match.

Flemski looked good although they were perhaps a bit lucky to win the match. Second set they were second best all the way through and had to save a couple of sets points at 4-5, which they did with massive serves.

Went *3-0 down in the tiebreak as well before they upped their returning game and got the minibreaks back, and then had two points in a row where they got a deadnet cord to give them the point. On the first match Knowle hit a lob that hit the very edge of the line which Fleming could only hit wide, but Skupski hit a great return on the second match point before putting the forehand away.

They should win their next match quite easily whoever they play.

Baker/Ward have a good first round draw against clay courters Almagro/Schwank, and have won the first set 6-2. smile

And go on to take the second set on the tiebreak 7-4 and thus book a quarter final with Flemski.

Guarenteed British semi finalist and a chance for the supposed DC team to have a doubles match with each other.

Well done, boys.  w00t.gif  Given Almagro's & Schwank's lack of pedigree on the green stuff, I was kinda hopin'... wink

My wish has been granted. I look forward to following the match between the two sets of Brits. Who to win? - Col and Ken for my money.nod.gif

Looking ahead to tomorrow, if Delgo & Dom can somehow find a way past Benneteau & Llodra in the first round of the doubles (a big "if", I know), they will not have to tackle the top seeds, Kubot & Marach (POL/AUT), in the QF, but the Brazilians, Marcelo Melo & Bruno Soares, who've just stuffed them by 1 & 3...

Interesting to see how Baker/Ward are playing very well together on the dubs court.

They won Savvanah earlier this year and now a great opening win here. Hopefully they can keep up this unbeaten streak!

Murray/Marray 4-6 4-3*

Interesting to see how they won 2 more points than their opponents in that 1st set despite losing it!

They grab the 2nd set, breaking on a sudden death deuce.

Wow, they lose the MTB 10-2!!

Such a big shame and a match they shoud have won.

They only lost 5 points on their serve in the 2nd set and lost 4 in the MTB!
