Jamie holds to 30 and sends this match into a third set. 4-6, 6-3, 0-0*. Much improved from Jamie, upping his first serve to 69% and was much more impressive on second serve, winning 70% of those points. From the stats this looks like anyones match heading into the final set.
Dolgo serves out to 30 and Jamie loses 4-6, 6-3, 1-6. Arguably a much improved performance from Queens and taking a set from a top 50 player isnt to be sniffed at. Ultimately Jamie had the momentum at the end of the second set but failed to capitalise in that first game of the third and unfortunately fell away quite quickly although the last couple of games were better. Overall a performance to take heart from on his way to Wimbledon.
A telling stat was that Dolgo served 15 aces to Jamie's 3 and I think that on this type of surface a lack of a big serve was telling for Jamie. After that performance I am more optimistic that he could potentially win a match at Wimbledon with a very kind draw whereas before I gave him pretty much no chance.
Shame for Jamie, like you said, a much better performance than Queens. I still dont think he will win a match at Wimby, even if a kind draw is offered, he just doesnt play well enough on the surface.
All credit to Jamie, he is a very hard worker and makes sure he gives it his all, but 3 WC's for the 3 grass ATP's is a bit unfair on other brits, who actually do play much better on the surface and have a better chance at winning. Some brits long for this surface all year round but havent really been given a chance. Ok, if britain hosted 3 hard court events some time in the year, i'd be very happy for Jamie to recieve 1,2,3 of them because he is our best player on that surface after Andy and Boggo. But i dont think the choices of WC's have been right at all this year if we want to see winners.
