However, i do think Flemski seem to have really picked their game up again in the last 2 to 3 weeks after a not so good period. So that's very good to see.
Shame for Flemski, but it was the right result in the end and the better team on the day won.
For a set and a half Flemski hardly had a shot on the Poles serve and couldn't get the ball back in play. And even when they did have a couple of break points midway through the second set, the had to deal with unreturnable serves.
The sole break in the first set came when Fleming had to come back from 0-40 on his serve, which he did, but on the deuce point Skupski put a smash long.
Finally got the break at 5-6 due to a poor game from Matkowski. Started off with a lucky return which hit the net and went straight past the volleyer. Matkowski then missed three easy volleys in the rest of the game and gifted them the break.
MTB started badly for Flemski with a double fault from Skupski (I think he started all three sets on his serve with a double fault), and then a great return got them to 4-0. Poles were always just a step ahead in the MTB and Flemski never had a chance to get back into it, and they served an unreturnable serve on the match point.
In the end, the Poles had better serves and returned the ball better than Flemski and that was enough to win in the end, with the crucial points being a double fault and a winning return. Once they got into the rallies Flemski held their own but didn't get into enough of them to get the win.
Looking in reasonably good form ahead of Wimbledon, but they are going to have to be with the tough draw they have.
I'm pretty confident that they will win against Clement/Mahut at Wimby, and assuming that the Bryans get thru to the 2nd round, they've been a bit of a hit & a miss this spring/summer ... so at that point, all bets are off.
