Must be an AELTC pick. She would have been on the list as top 250 but can't believe the LTA would have pushed for her, considering they didn't want to give her a wildcard a couple of years ago when she was in poor form but the AELTC did anyway.
Actually, although I'd prefer it to go to a Brit, I'm actually surprised Mel has one. She's really done zip this year, sadly, and she would most definitely benefit from having a qualies wildcard (or entering qualies anyway...)

Yes I am as well but maybe she made a pact with Sally after the Aussie Open that she would return the compliment come Wimby time. Remember Sally invited Laura to play with her in Australia.
It will be interesting to see how many Aussie,Aussie,Aussie Oi Oi Oi chants Laura will get at Wimby especially now playing with Sally in the dubs.
Cav's coach has just confirmed that she chose to go through qualies. Brave from a financial point of view but makes perfect sense from a rankings point of view given the decent points available in women's slam qualifying. (as opposed to the derisory points available in men's qualifying)

Given the LTA said they would recommend 8 players for either draw, 4 have MD, 2 have QD, possibly 1 declined (Cav may have been on the LTA list or may have already chose qualies before it was made), I wonder where the other one has got to?

Actually I think the main draw is best for Mel. Being low on confidence, the cash / 5 points and chance of a R1 win are better odds than making it through 3 rounds of qualifying.
