from sky sports, drapers view, emphasis mine, getting the wriggle room in already we see, so did the LTA recommend him or did AETLC just choose on their own?:
Lawn Tennis Association chief executive Roger Draper has backed the decision to give Jamie Baker a Wimbledon wildcard.
The British number three was handed an automatic entry into the tournament despite being ranked outside the world's top 250 - the normal cut-off for wildcards.
Baker crashed out in the first round of the AEGON Championships at Queen's on Monday and has fallen at the first hurdle in his three previous Wimbledons.
But Draper insists that the Scot, who has struggled with injury and illness over the past two years, deserves another chance.
"That was a decision by the order of play committee and the All England Club but I support it," Draper said.
"They have good people on those committees so I'm sure they will have weighed up all of the options.
"Jamie Baker has been injured for a big part of the year and whilst he didn't make the 250 cut off he wasn't far off.
"He is absolutely committed and I think he does deserve his wildcard. I'm pleased they have come to this decision."
Alex Bogdanovic is safely inside the top 250 but was overlooked for a wildcard after eight consecutive opening-round defeats at Wimbledon.
The 26-year-old will now have to qualify for the main draw by right but Draper is optimistic about his future in the game.
He added: "It's absolutely not the end of the road for him. Alex has huge talent and is playing well at the moment.
"The average age of the top 100 players is 27 so in many senses he is in his prime and he does have the talent still to do some real damage.
"He may well break into the top 100 and he is capable of that."
"so we cut his funding."
sorry may have added a wee bit at the end

It's always such a cop-out giving the remaining WCS to the next 3 DAs. Interesting too, because I know for sure that Tomic had his eye on one (it's been all over the Aussie press) and I believe at least one of the other two non-GB Queen's WCs might have been holding out hope too.
Nice to see that the AELTC has at least been decent enough to give the Bogster a doubles WC. The Count and I did our best to remind them of that possibility on Twitter yesterday, so we'll delude ourselves that that's what tipped the balance. LOL
Btw the URL has changed from wildcards_2010 to 2010_wildcards, i.e.:
Ahh... so having seen the success of the WC to Canas in the past, they have now decided that the grass gods of Kunitsyn, Haase and Kavcic should get one (although Haase would actually be a sensible choice given he's a good player only ranked low because of injury), but I'm sure Kunitsyn benefited from this last year, and Kavcic has never played on a grass court before)
Surely coming up with some kind of trade with the Australians or the Americans for a wild card could have been achieved, or giving the likes of Tomic, Harrison, or dare I say it, Dimitrov a WC would be a better idea, as at least wouldn't be wasting them like they are at the moment.
why do the lta feel if the WC's dont win it is a waste, so what if we give them out and our players lose, they are our nation's to give, you see all other tennis weak nation's doing it

As I recall, Kunitsyn did not have a wildcard last year into the Wimbly main draw. He was either a qualifier or had direct entry.
I have to say, I find the decision they've gone with rather uninventive, and I'm not convinced that handing the three remaining WCs to simply the next three in line on the Alternates is going to add anything to the tournament or draw in the crowds.
The suggestion of a trade/deal would at least create some interest and the potential for reciprocation. There are also a few familiar campaigners in the list of those up for qualifying who may have been better choices, or at least would've generated more interest amongst the general public.

As for the "old campaigners" I mentioned, to provide an example, one can note Nicolas Lapentti in the qualifying draw. He may not get that far in the tournament if given a wildcard, but amongst the public he'd be a familiar name and face who might draw in more people to the tournament. Could work. At least could be a better alternative than just giving them to the next three guys on the list for the main draw because they can't make a decision on who to award the WC's to. Admittedly it would be nice if they offered them to Brit players, but I think it was already made clear some time ago that wasn't going to happen... so just trying to come up with some alternatives that they could've gone for that might have been more interesting than wasting the WCs.

i was rather tired when i wrote my post, but was meant or say what is the point of organising deals with TA or USTA for a slam WC's trade offs. If they wont give any of our boys WC's into our home slam, save Baker, how would they ever be able to justify giving them one in a overseas slam.

They'd only be swapping one WC with the other slams, so they'd only need one player to be worth giving one too. Fair or not, it would be better than just giving them away to players like Spadea, who I seem to remember got one of the freed up places last year!
