Week 23 - ATP 250 - AEGON Championships, Queen's Club - main draw

L48: (WC) Jamie Baker WR 257 v (16) Denis Istomin (UZB) WR 72
L48: (WC) James Ward WR 360 v Robby Ginepri (USA) WR 98

Could be a lot worse, though it's still hard to see either of them going through - Wardy in particular will have to put up a much better performance than last year.

L32: (3) Andy Murray WR 4 v Ivan Navarro (ESP) WR 109 or Daniel Köllerer (AUT) WR 111

He's in Rafa's half unfortunately. I wanna see Muzza v mad Dani!! biggrin

The draw wasn't up before, I got the matches from Twitter.

I see Dimi has a qualifier in R1, lucky wotsit - I hope Boggo qualifies, draws him and plays him off the court! smile.gif

In fact, the two dodgy WCs have the easiest draws - Harrison has drawn Levine. Typical.

Hello all! Back from Queens!

Mixed bag for the Brits today.

Boggo - looking solid, on form, experienced a couple of slight dips in the matches but ultimately pulled it out of the bag.

Goodall - looked agitated, got into a tiebreak at the end of his match, disputed some of the overrules from the chair, lost in the tiebreak.

Smethurst - looked really tired, and needless to say was not particularly cheery, he was also getting annoyed with some of the line calls and he was also pretty frustrated with himself when points went against him, his matches were a struggle, and he couldn't pull out a win against Boggo.

Evans - a little patchy here and there, against Delgado he was also questioning a few line calls and Smethurst who was watching noticed that the umpire was the same as he'd had earlier, but he managed to hold it together.

In between matches we popped our heads round the practice courts. Andy Murrray was the big attraction of the day there, there was also Andy Roddick, Andreas Seppi, Jamie Murray, Marin Cilic, James Ward, Richard Gasquet, Chris Guccione, Jesse Witten, Mardy Fish (who was Murray's practice partner), Ross Hutchins, Jamie Baker, Dan Evans, Rajeev Ram, Ilja Bozoljac...

We also figured we'd scope out the DC opposition by watching Marsel Ilhan vs Rik de Voest. Ilhan was initially going rather well, and raced through to 4-3 up after only 20 minutes. However, Ilhan then managed to pull off a superchoke and de Voest took it 7-5 6-2 (correct me if I've got that wrong, I'm working off memory alone here).

Rumours that tomorrow may be rained off.

Not a great draw for Baker or Ward but both matches that they could potentially win if they play to their best, as Istomin isn't the greatest on grass, and Ginepri very rarely puts two good tournaments in a row together.

As much as Murray vs. Crazy Dani would be brilliant to see, I can't see him getting past the grass loving Spaniard Navarro. Would expect Murray to get to the semi's at least and then maybe further depending on how much effort Nadal puts into this event (although Nadal isn't one to tank a match in all honesty...)

I've just passed the news onto Boggo via you know who - hadn't realised he didn't know yet!

The good thing for the match is that I think Boggo is quite likely just to go and play it.

I think it's more folk like us that have been going on about the WCs and see this as err rather significant from that point of view.
