Oh c'mom there, its a tough business. Like you have to decide between such as :
a) WR 337 ( CH 248 at 03/08/09 ) aged 20 ( 23/05/90 ) b) WR 338 ( CH 255 at 14/09/09 ) aged 19 ( 16/05/91 ) c) WR 343 ( CH 337 at 17/05/10 ) aged 19 ( 13/10/90 )
See, much of a muchness, the first 2 have gone back a bit ( hopefully temporarily ) in the rankings after promising higher things more quickly, the third has steadily been on the rise and is around his career high.
Oh, heck, eeny, meeny, miny, mo, let's go for b), hey he's a little younger - oh shucks we've ended up with a Bulgarian when the other two are British, never mind, next year maybe...
Sorry Dimitrov's WC over another Brit is total disgrace given as I show he actually hardly stands out, has been going backwards if anything and has been given so many WCs in the past, though other countries have actually noticed he isn't now so much on the rise and / or as Steven suggests not fallen for his agent's speel - gee have those folk even been looking at results and rankings or just recognise his name ?!
Harrison is also debatable. And yes I understood he got a challenger WC in swap for Jamie Baker getting a WC to challenger that it seemed he could have got into anyway as a direct entry. I take it since nothing said otherwise this is just a gift because he is such an astounding talent He's very promising ( WR 267 at just past 18th birthday ) but...
Tomic, OK, he's still 17, WR 260 and basically still on the rise and does seem an interesting character so all in all I wouldn't argue at all with his WC.
To me surely at least 3 WCs ( i.e. the majority ) should have gone to Brits, especially seeing the others who have got them.
Re Wardinator, much as I really admire his progress this year and his performances this week, I think a step too far just now for a guy who previous to this week had played a total of 2 challenger matches ( losses ) and is currently ranked outside the top 600 although going to rise ( even with no further wins this week ) to closer to 500.
However, Boggo, Evans, Smethurst ???
Dimitrov ????!!!!!

Dimitrov is defnitely the most scandalous WC of the lot. In fact, something LT said yesterday after talking to Jonny and him implied he thought he was going to be at Queen's next week, but even then I didn't believe he could possibly have got another main draw WC there.
I made much the same point as you about the Wardinator before he played Dent (i.e. that he'd probably be out of his depth in the Queen's MD and it might be kinder to give him a QWC) but now he's beaten Dent, he hasn't had a particularly kind draw relative to anyone else if he builds on that even more by winning today, which would mean that he wouldn't be able to play Queen's qualifying due to his own success, surely they should have left one open for him instead of someone who didn't really deserve a WC last year, certainly doesn't deserve one this year and lost in straight sets in QR1 to the player who lost to Josh Milton in QR2. Doh!!

unless they have a Eastbourne and Wimby WC lined up for Wardinator this isn't going to look great for them.
i know what he's done isn't earth shattering, but this year how many of our players have actually reached QF's of a challenger? i think just Boggo (1sf, 1 qf) and Ward 1 (qf).

Cheers Steven, I was sort of wondering so knew if I just left it like that you'ed come back with the answer
That is of course those that didn't get WCs, i.e. additional to Baker and Ward.
If Boggo doesn't get any grasscourt MD WCs it's a ******* disgrace !
round our way we call steven 'ol faithful.
Post a stats based question, leave it 20-30mins, pop back and bingo theres your ansewer
Queens was Boggo's most likley shot for a WC i felt so it looks like he will be all out of luck this year :(
And whilst he fits the LTA criteria for Wimby recomendation the fact that they havent put him forward here surely means they wont be that serious about trying to secure him a wimby one.
(unless the AELTC decide he is worthy of one without the LTA's input)

Not that hard when I can just read them off the T25 table (not that hard for you lot to get for yourself either LOL) and yes, my list only includes those who didn't get WCs.

I join the debate at the end of my French Open report today. I'll be home on Monday for the first day. Bring on the grass...
Thanks for pointing that out, I did wonder if you'd said anything and had a quick look in the Times tennis section today but didn't think to look through the RG story. (with so much going on over here, I don't seem to be able to get up much enthusiasm for what remains of RG, though if the men's Final is a proper contest that might change, and it is amazing what's happened in the women's competition this year)
Sounds like you don't have a problem with the WC for Tomic (and people here don't seem to either, though I'd be more happy if it was part of a WC swap with TA - if it is, why don't they just tell us?) but you're not sure about the other four, including even the ones for Baker and Wardy. I'd be fascinated to know who you would have given them to had you been the one making the choices.
