Alex only won one point on Begemann's serve in that set, eek.

Here's the original in German, too long for me to translate (especially when the MTL article captures the gist of the best bets more than well enough) but adds a bit more for those who can understand it: http://www.tennisnet.com/de-AT/Szene/Artikel/3-Juni-2010/koubek-eklat.aspx

I've learnt a new naughty word! biggrin  Of course, it just had to be Köllerer, didn't it?

Nice play on words in the first part of the headline (for the uninitiated, it means roughly "Derailment in Rail-village")! wink  There are some prime examples there of how ridiculous German makes itself look when it imports words from English & "Germanicises" them (gebreakt, gepusht) or, worse still, invents a word that doesn't even exist in the source language (Rebreak, which I've never come across before, but take to mean "break-back")! disbelief  Interesting, too, that German-speaking players change sides rather than ends.
W*chser, you mean? What a sheltered life you've lived LOL

Gepusht and gebreakt are fun. There are others too - I once told my gf a set of a match I was watching would probably be over soon because whoever it was "serviert gegen den Satzverlust" (i.e. was serving to stay in the set) and she told me off for using servieren in a context it couldn't possibly be used in. Fortunately, she was in the room to hear it the next time the German Eurosport commentator used it biggrin

German made up pseudo-English words are a right pain though - my pet hate is "Handy" (ubiquitously used for mobile phone) which 95% of Germans insist on pronouncing "Hendy" just to make it worse.

James is right though, that article is definitely written in "österreichisch," or "erster-reeej-kish" as the Austrians would say. biggrin I found it hard not to crack up the first time I was in Austria and came across the accent in full flow, and my impression of an Austrian accent can still leave Germans rolling in the aisles. (then again, my German accent has been known to have a similar effect ... ashamed)

Alex takes the tie-break by 7-5 to level the match.  Keep it up, lad... pray.gif

Very good  smile

I really like how he's toughed out sets this week and won 5 out of 5 that have reached 5 all, even if other sets have not gone so well.  Actually 6 out of 6 if you include qualifying.

Steady lad, I've just written elsewhere that I think it was too soon for you to have a Queens WC  wink.gif

Have to say I went away to watch the Nadal match and now the match has gone so I assume Alex lost.

3-6 to Begemann. cry  Good experience for the lad this week, though, & with any luck, he'll have learnt from it.

So will he be able to play Queen's qualies (if he gets a WC of course)?
