RE: Week 22 Challenger - Nottingham (E42,500) - Grass

Comedy gold for anyone surprised at Daisy's reports of a bit of aggro in the doubles yesterday.

At least potential members of our DC squad get on with each other better than the Austrians. biggrin

Here's the original in German, too long for me to translate (especially when the MTL article captures the gist of the best bets more than well enough) but adds a bit more for those who can understand it: http://www.tennisnet.com/de-AT/Szene/Artikel/3-Juni-2010/koubek-eklat.aspx

And here's the video, Steven: http://video.oe24.at/portal/123/833/Koubek--der-Wuerger-vom-Centercourt-147379

Quite tame in actuality but still "comedy gold" biggrin

I thought it was going to be more intense than that :P "A scuffle ensued" - really? All I saw was Koubek putting his hand around Koellerer's throat... I was expecting a fistfight!

Amusing, yes, particularly at the reactions of everyone

I've learnt a new naughty word! biggrin  Of course, it just had to be Köllerer, didn't it?

Nice play on words in the first part of the headline (for the uninitiated, it means roughly "Derailment in Rail-village")! wink  There are some prime examples there of how ridiculous German makes itself look when it imports words from English & "Germanicises" them (gebreakt, gepusht) or, worse still, invents a word that doesn't even exist in the source language (Rebreak, which I've never come across before, but take to mean "break-back")! disbelief  Interesting, too, that German-speaking players change sides rather than ends.

Stircrazy: I think describing the language that these articles are written in as 'German' is doing Germany and its language a disservice, it's surely more acurately described as 'Austrian'! wink

To add to your collection I spotted "insultierte" in an Austrian news article reporting this incident - totally new to me! biggrin

rofl.gif, Count.  He'd certainly have been a worthier recipient than bloody Dimitrov.

That's going to make for an intriguing SF in the top half of the draw.  I said yesterday Mannarino was a dark horse.  He's also a serial Brit-basher, isn't he?  Mind you, it won't matter a jot if Alex crashes out today or against Ilhan/Soeda tomorrow...

Alex is quoted in the report on yesterday's match on the LTA site as saying he was feeling pretty tired (hardly surprising after five matches!), so maybe the strain's finally beginning to tell! hmm  2-3* now.

Alex only won one point on Begemann's serve in that set, eek.
