LOL good move (tho possibly not the same shirt ...) -  I think Lady T (why did Hoss writing it that way make me think "U turn if you want to, the Lady's not for turning" LOL) needs to learn to stop using posh words like "outfit" and "choosing" if she wants to be considered a true BT.net Challengers/Futures fan. wink (only joking, LT)

Have fun anyway, wish I was joining you but Notts is the wrong side of London for me.

cry I don't know about that. I had nightmares in the night that once I got to Nottingham train station, I then got completely lost trying to find the tennis centre, and now I'm a bit freaked out. Anyone fancy doing a lady a kind turn and meeting her at the station around 11:30am so she gets to the tennis promptly instead of spending hours walking around Nottingham in circles? I'll be wearing brown/black today, as I said I have brown hair, long, which I'm wearing loose, about average in height. Anyone? Pretty please?!

EDIT: I'll be the one looking lost and rifling through print-off maps.

Lady T u need to get off at Beeston station ,but your train might go straight through to notts station which is too far to walk.

Oh. Oh dear. I'm really confused. When I bought the tickets, "Nottingham" station was the only option for me to go to, and then when I searched on for a map of national rail, "Besston" was not shown... but when I printed off the map for how to get to the tennis centre from the station, I think I printed off assuming I would be coming out of Beeston station! How on earth do I get to Beeston?! cry

EDIT: Wait, I think it's okay - from the direction I'm coming it looks like I arrive at Beeston station earlier than I would at Notts... so Beeston must be a stop or two before I reach Notts... I'll just get off at Beeston. But how do I find my way from Beeston to the tennis centre?

got to be the queens WC's right there too?
I'd normally say they ought to take into account the draws too (since it would seem pretty unfair to reward one player with a WC on the basis of one lucky draw and deny one to another, possibly higher-ranked player, because they'd had a dire draw the same week), but in this case they all had tough draws and Wardy actually beat Josh, so I'd agree that the three Brits in R2 have done the best this week whichever way you look at it.

Then again, would the Wardinator have a decent chance against a top 100 player? Probably not at this point (impressive as he's been this week) so maybe a QWC would serve him better in the long run, opening up a main draw WC spot for someone like Baker or Smethurst.

Another thing that I think ought to be taken into consideration (but never seems to be) is that the sensible people to give Eastbourne main draw WCs to are players who are also getting Wimbledon main draw WCs, so as not to force players to choose between accepting an Eastbourne main draw WC or playing Wimby Q. So if the LTA want to give some players 2 MD WCs but not 3, I think they should give them for Eastbourne & Wimby, not Queen's & Wimby.

Also, despite Queen's being higher profile than Eastbourne, I'd say MD WCs for the latter are more valuable, because not only do you have more chance of getting a winnable R1 draw there (because the draw is so much weaker, even taking into account the larger draw size at Queen's), you also get more points for winning a R1 match in Eastbourne because of the different draw sizes.

side stepping the travel related panic.

I agree with that steven, but Wardinator has now beaten Armitrage, at ATP runner up on grass, and now a top 200 guy. To be fair none of our other players, save Boggo, regaurly beat top 200 guys either, and all of them outside shots when it comes to a top 100.

hopefully they wil take into account the who Eastbourne/wimby thing, although as we know often in the past they havent.

If you're still here and going the way the NationalRail site suggests (i.e. changing at Tamworth, though I realise that's not the only way), Beeston is the stop before Nottingham, so you won't have ticket problems. Even if you aren't and have to get out at Nottingham, a ticket to go one more stop to Beeston won't cost much.

Beeston station is closer to the tennis centre than Nottinghm, though there isn't a huge difference, so if you've printed off a map, maybe just get out at whichever station is shown on your map and go from there. Catching a bus to the university from either station (if you get out the Nottingham station, the main bus station is very close) will drastically reduce the amount of walking needed.

You're right, of course, and I'm sure he'd prefer the money on offer from a main draw WC too - we all know that's a big consideration for most players at his level. How he does against Dent today will be a reasonable indication of whether or not he'd be completely out of his depth if he got a decent R1 draw.

Of course you are right draws must be taking into account as well, just see here: Wardy to reach the QF's will have to beat 2 WC's, both outside the top 250 and Boggo will have to beat a top 100 followed by top 140 guy :) Same points, same money on offer etc. but that is the nature of the beast.

there were quotes from both Wards on the LTA site, James suggesting the center ct plays a bit slower. will that be better for Boggo vs Soeda i wonder?

Dear Lord, talk about reinforcing s*xual stereotypes ...

Female agonises over what clothes to wear at tennis tournament, but is unable to work out the train timetable or read a map.

Several males, who don't care about clothes, but know all about trains and maps, gallantly come to the rescue.

And just what we needed after the Josh Goodall train spotter reference. disbelief (btw, did Vandenburg and Josh meet yesterday or did Vdb sensibly steer well clear of him given that he'd lost?)

And I hope you're in hiding by the time the girls get here, otherwise I don't fancy your chances of getting out of the forum alive biggrin

I did look out for a Norweigan flag, but didn't see one, and Josh was hanging around most of the day and I didn't see a massive arguement or anything.

The only bt.netter I know was there was James who I briefly met up with near the end.

Just want to say thanks to both Josh and Wolfie for the tweets/texts and whatever they did to keep everyone updated with scores over the last 3 days.
Really appreciate it guys!

Looks as though the scores will be sent in by text by at least one person as well today!
I might pitch up there sometime after 2pm.
Will miss AnneK and KoB but they're playing dubs later so can see them in action in the later afternoon.
It's a good OOP today!

:)

Just to follow on from the last post, Daisy has kindly offered to text scores from mid-afternoon if necessary, but I don't know what, if any, arrangements have already been made - does anyone know who's likely to be texting or twittering scores today?

Also, if it turns out we could do with her texts, does anyone want too volunteer to receive them? I'm not going to be at my computer all afternoon and I don't want her texts to go to waste because I can't post all of them.

If so, please pm me with your number and I'll pm her on AM.com (or text her if she's already left)
