The wildcards have been announced for the opening grass court event, with qualifying beginning on Saturday, which means that entries currently look like this:
Main Draw
Elena Baltacha Naomi Cavaday (WC) Katie O'Brien (WC) Anne Keothavong (WC) Melanie South (WC) Anna Smith
Qualifying
Naomi Broady Emily Webley-Smith Lisa Whybourn Jocelyn Rae Danielle Brown Jade Windley Tara Moore Anna Fitzpatrick Amanda Elliott Jennifer Ren Jessica Ren (WC) Samantha Vickers (WC) Alexandra Walker (WC) Manisha Foster (WC) Hope Johnson (WC) Laura Deigman
Further withdrawals could see Mel move into the main draw, and free up her wildcard, but it is frustrating for other wildcard contenders that Anne and Katie chose not to enter originally

The Knight wrote:David do you know the men's WCs? I'm pretty sure this info is hiding in another thread but Goodall, Smethurst, Ward (no Evo) and a WC swap for Ryan Harrison (USA) in return for Jamie B's WC in Carson this week.

It is at the expense of other Brits, its shameless really. If the LTA are serious about taking things foreward there should be clear guidelines on WD's.
Anne and Katie didn't enter originally, presumably hoping they'd win a round at RG.
They didn't' and it also seems likely to me that they realised a training week on grass would be pretty pointless with mosrt coaches, trainers and hitting partners in Notttingham. So if they want to have a training block on grass they may as well have a match around it too.
I hadn't realised AK & KOB would have got in as DAs - in that case it is pretty shocking that they are using up WCs. Then again, I guess in WTA 50Ks and above, you gain points for each match you win in qualifying, so it may be better for ranking purposes if those who don't already have 16th best scores at, say, 25K R2 level (8 points) play qualifying with a realistic chance of winning 2 or 3 matches than go straight into the main draw and draw a top 100 player in R1.

I was suprised to see Anne and KOB not on the original entry list. Really don't understand it...just enter and if you don't want to play withdraw later..instead we have wasted 2 precious wild cards.
What is even more annoying is that any other week KOB enters pretty much every event.

One thing that puzzled me whilst checking for WCs on the ITF site last night was that I couldn't spot Georgie Stoop's name, and I remembered that she was in the list of withdrawals when published 2 weeks ago. I've rechecked and found out the reason why. Georgie Stoop has changed into Georgina Gent (presumably having just married) so that's the name you have to look up on the ITF now (she still appears as Georgie Stoop on the WTA rankings though).
Well spotted I assume you are right about the marriage part. Georgina not georgie. I wonder whether that is the reason for her lack of appearances over the last few months.
Well spotted David. Maybe she was just fed up of the 'stoops to conquer' headlines! I've got a contact who may well be able to confirm the reason (I can't really believe it's anything other than getting married), I'll let you know if they get back to me.

According to a post on GBTG Georgie has been in plaster after an operation on her foot. She has just had the plaster removed but is a long way away from making a comeback. Still not sure whether Mr Gent married her whilst she has been on the sidelines.
