We have to remember Ward beat two top 100 opponents on this very court a few weeks ago, and despite qualifying for Wimbledon Ilhan he did lose two sets to Marcos Daniel, who is the definition of a clay court specialist (career record of 2-27 on the ATP Tour away from clay).
Ilhan has hard flat groundstrokes, but the grass will suit Ward more and if he won it would certainly justify the LTA's decision to play it on this surface.
Here's a thought, possibly worth mentioning on Alexandra's blog. If James Ward takes this rubber and gives us a 2-0 lead going into Saturday, how many ties will it have been since that happened for Team GB? The answer - not since GB vs Croatia in 2007, when we had Tim Henman on the team. We went through Argentina, Austria, Ukraine, Poland, and Lithuania without ever taking a 2-0 lead going into the second day.

LOL about the DM's harsh comments on Zorlu. Let's not forget that there are a plethora of shapes and sizes on the Tour, not to mention players that look younger and older than they really are. Nalbandian penchant for pies is often jokingly referred to, but he still manages somehow to be a tricky opponent, whilst on the other hand some players are so slight you think they're going to just float away on the wind but they manage to thump their taller, more broad-shouldered opponents. In terms of looking older/younger, I've met juniors who grow stubble and tower over me so far that they make you feel about 15 years old, whilst Roger Federer, when he's in a suit and tie, looks like a 37 year old City stockbroker, if you ask me.
Zorlu lost because Baker's a better player.
