Only one ranked player in the Q draw here! Nik Slater says she's now in the main draw.

Nicola won 4 & 2 :) Faces Weinhold next, which will be a tall order given she beat Litvak and pushed Lee-Waters to 3 at Raleigh.

Nik has just reported that she has beaten (3) Weinhold, who's ranked more than 500 places above her, 5 & 1!! biggrin

Next up: (5) Suomalainen or unranked McPhillips, who are playing now. So that'll be  Suomalainen then ...

Nicola has received a WC into next weeks main draw in the US $10K, so another win this week or a win in R1 next week should see her onto the T25 table. smile

R2: SLATER, Nicola (USA) 1037 beat WEINHOLD, Ashley (USA) 3 498 7-5 6-1

Just to show how good a win that was. smile.gif

QF: SLATER, Nicola (USA) 1037 v SUOMALAINEN, Pila (FIN) 5 544
Well she beat the number 3 seed so how about the number 5 seed?  biggrin.gif

Suomalainen is well known on the GB ITF circuit and her career H2H v Brits in singles is 28-14, including a lost to Naomi Broady but wins against Hope Johnson, Daneika Borthwick and (in 3 sets) Lisa Whybourn in 2009.

Almost all the GB victories against Suomalainen in the last few years have been by girls who are (now) in the GB top 10 (i.e. Stoop, Broady and above), so this one could well be even tougher than the match against the no. 3 seed.

I saw her at the Bath $10K where I think she played doubles with Hope Johnson. At the time I thought that was a strange combo. I wonder if she trains in the UK?

Nicola lost, and expressed it in the usual subtle terms...

LOL - I'm sure if I played tennis on the circuit, my tweets after I lost would be a lot worse smile.gif
