RE: Roland Garros 2010 'Battle of the Boards' pick 'em contest

I like that !!!! I had Fed losing in the final anyway, but Berdbrain getting to the semis is what I was banking on ... top ten here I come. As long as Djoko beats Melzer in the other Semi, I don't care about any other result now biggrin

I had Fed losing in the semis, I think, or it might have been the final. In any case I definitely had Rafa to win.

Yes, you're already up to 7th and Akhenaten has hit the top. Scratchy and DavidC have both dropped 3 but have hung on in the top 10, so BT now have 4 in the top 10.

No report today, as I said yesterday - there will be one covering all the QFs tomorrow.

Yes, thanks. I can't overtake Akhen, DanC or Bjorki, but Djoko winning could mean 4th, notwithsatnding any Sodapopers who could come from nowhere if they've got him thru into the final

9 of the 11 entrants who picked Sod to reach the semis have him going on to reach the Final but it looks like only two of them (rondun and sandman) would overtake you if he did, and you'll get safely clear of them if Nole wins tomorrow.

Yay! I am number1.gif.   If only I'd had Nole into the semis I'd have this wound up..  oh well, I'm the greatest Jurgen Melzer fan ever now! (well, at least for today).

I've had a quick look at the overall rankings, and I think there's a chance Scratchy could become the World No.1.   There's a scary possibility of Steven getting that honour too! eyepopping.gifwink

I'm pretty sure that possibility slipped through my fingers when Pics Ferrer went out early, and certainly if Nole wins today, I'll be lucky to even hold onto WR 5.

Couldn't resist having a quick check in the end - if the RG ranking points stayed as they are now (which they won't unless the rest of the tournament gets cancelled), Scratchy would be no. 1 on 4636 points, I would be no. 2 on 4333 and current no. 1 Shabba would be no. 3 on 4315.

I can't see Shabba ending up on anything other than 4315 and I'm sure I'll end up below that (a long way below it if Nole wins today - come on Melzer!), so 4315 effectively Scratchy's target and a top 50 finish is likely to be enough, so unless I've mucked up these quick calcs, he's odds on to top the rankings next Monday.

Now that I've seen how badly the current top 4 are doing at RG, I'm even more annoyed at Pics Ferrer messing up so badly furious and TsonGEM pulling out furious - that's twice in the last year that I've had good chances to get to no. 1 just before big points were due to come off (I had a chance in Madrid before big Paris points came off, and then a good performance at the AO this year led to this second chance before big Wimby & Montréal points come off) and I'm going to fall just short again (*), not knowing  if I'll ever have another chance. cry

(*) You may think I'm a choker, I blame the GEMS and PEMs wink

Oh my god!
Potentially world number 1! To coin a phrase off Silver.........AMAZING!
I'm confident it will all go wrong though. Lets just pray Jurgen pulls off a shock.

Do you need our new favourite Austrian to beat our least favourite Serb too? wink

Wow, Steven, what mental powers you wage - Melzer taken set 3 from a break down.  Keep it up.

Question for Steven :

This may be a bit mad of me, but by my (possibly incorrect) calculations I think I'd be better off (ranking points wise) if Almagro beats Rafa, even though I have Rafa to win the tournament.

My thinking is this, I'm currently 17 pts over average,  7.8%  worth 156 pts. If everyone gets 5 points , I stay at 17pts over average, but the percentage will fall slightly, thus giving less ranking points. With Fed out, there's no-one that Rafa can play that has more than 1% behind them, so it won't make any difference in places.

effectively, all the 'rafa points' that everyone will get merely dilutes the % above average that I have, so am I better off if he goes out ?

Frankly I've given up on finishing this Pick'em well, although I also have Rafa to win.

Blimey, at 2 sets and a break up I'd assumed Djoko was home and hosed, now he's producing a real superchoke on me. I knew that you can rely on a pickem to kick you when you're down,  I'd forgotton you should also expect it to kick you in the balls just when you were least expecting it as well.
