2010 ROLAND GARROS BOTB - DAY 7 'SYNDICATED' REPORT
R3 finished on time today and after what seemed like GEM suicide week, it seemed for a while to be turning into PEM suicide weekend as the Ferrer(o)s held out the white flags against unfancied opposition.
The first result of the day was 'bash, not picked to reach R4 by anyone, doing a massive bit of damage limitation for those who had put their faith in Monaco by taking out Duckboy 51% before Youzhny 49% finished off Troicki, a result which increased the damage for those who had picked Robredo.
97% pick Nole won and his route to the semis got a whole lot easier today, when 99% Ferrer inexplicably managed to get walloped by 1% pick Melzer and 81% pick JCF lost to Ginepri, another player in that quarter (along with 'bash) whom nobody at all had picked to get to R4.
Some of the Hispanic clay court order was restored towards the end of the day when Verdy 97% and Rafa 100% added to an earlier Almagro 53% win, while in a big swing match, Bellucci 38% upset Ljubo 54%.
BritishTennis.net WR 2 managed to increase their lead at the top once more as the rest of yesterday's top 3 teams slipped back. MTF WR 8 moved up 3 to 2nd and T4Y climbed 1 place to 3rd as they won R3.
AM.com WR 5 slipped back 2 to 4th and TAT WR 3, up 4 to 5th, were the big winners of the day as Rusedski.co.uk WR 4 slipped back 3 places to 6th. The only other big movers of the day were defending champions the Feddies WR 1, who dropped back 4 places to 12th.
INDIVIDUALS
The top 10 is virtually unrecognisable from a day earlier, with anyone who started out near the top dropping back unless they were one of the 40+ entrants who equal top scored with 6/9 correct.
The new leader is DavidC (BT), up 4 to 1st, one of a number of entrants who equal top scored for R3 with 12/16 winners. One point behind, separated from each other on tiebreak, are Claire Thompson (JM), up 7 to 2nd, Miles (TA), up 8 to 3rd, and Roy (GR), up 8 to 4th, while a further point back are mataeo1983 (TA), up 14 to 5th, and Dan C (TN), up 14 to 6th. The new top 10 is completed by Björki (MT), down 3 to 7th, Fiercehart (TA), up 25 to 8th, cazza99 (AM), up 27 to 9=, and FERNET (MT), down 3 to 9=.
Yesterday's top three, emf123 (IN), Darius (IN) & Akhenaten (BT), fell 10, 11 & 19 places to 11th, 13= & 22= respectively, after getting just 4/9 correct on Saturday.
ON THE RISE
As mentioned above, over 40 entrants equal top scored on Saturday with 6/9 - with two of the winners picked by nobody, 7/9 was the theoretical maximum.
Those who managed three-figure rises as a result were JM1138 (BT), up 106 to 90th, Irena2 (TA), n3gative (MT) & Sandman (BT), all up 102 to 99=, Suliso (TA), up 103 to 112th, and NyGeL (MT), up 100 to 120=. WindassWonderland (IN), up 93 to 81=, Scotsguy (CC), up 94 to 85=, BeauJarkko (TA), up 98 to 128=, and WimbledonAce (AM), up 96 to 161=, all rose more than 90 places as well.
DODGY DROPPERS
The four lowest scorers of the day got just 2/9 correct, with faller of the day ghandi (GR), down 120 to 254th, and serial gorilla-botherer sallydaisy (JM), down 103 to 275th, both suffering falls of over 100 places as a result. The other two, Alia Hamieh (RF), down 11 to 340th, and PhillyCheesesteaks (AM), down 5 to 345th, had both started the day already close to the bottom.
Petzschner's Left Thumb (IN) is still 6 points adrift in last place, though he has now gone ahead of GEMbot Amélie and is 23 points clear of the starving gorillas.
SUNDAY
Going into R4, just one entrant has all 8 of their QFist picks still standing and that is alikay (TN), who amazingly is currently in the bottom 30!
PC 3: (1) Fed 97% v (20) Wawrinka 1% - 2% went for le Monf & need Stani to win for damage limitation SL 3: (5) Söd 40% v (10) ili 15% - 42% Gulbis, 3% Montañés need Marin to win PC 4: (8) Tsonga 63% v (11) Youzhny 16% - 18% Robredo, 1% GGL, 1% TdB need Mikhail to win SL 4: (4) Muzza 50% v (15) Berdbrain 28% - 8% Dammit, 7% Baggy, 6% Isner need Tomá to win
I am stunned to have only dropped a place. I'm delirious in reality but you can't see my face to know that... In reality all I am doing is typing this on a computer.
Curse you Akhenaten, whatever happens I can't win this. I was soooo hopeful, since I've still got 4 semi finalists running, but whatever happens I can't make up 7 points on you.
2010 ROLAND GARROS BOTB - DAY 8 'SYNDICATED' REPORT
Who'd have thought at the start of the day that the average number of sets needed to complete the first four R4 matches would be just 2.5!
97% pick Fed beat Stani 1% to start the day and that was followed by an ever clearer win for Söderling 40% v ili 15%, though Gulbis 42% had been the top pick to win that match. Soon after that, Youzhny 16% reached the QFs when once again we failed to get through a RG without a prominent GEM withdrawing or retiring, as Tsonga 63% had to pull out after losing the 1st set.
Finally, Berdbrain 28% upset a very lacklustre Muzza 50%. The Scot was perhaps suffering the effects of a tough week 1 draw and having been in the last top half match in every round, but even so, if anyone was going to be a muppety in that match, past experience would have suggested it would be the Czech, though he has now got through RG week 1 without losing a set!
BritishTennis.net WR 2 still show no signs of being dislodged from the top spot, though they did have a relatively weak day on Sunday and their lead has been cut to just over a point by MTF WR 8, who stay in 2nd place.
The only team to gain more than one place on day 8 were TAT WR 3, up 2 to 3rd, and the only team to fall more than one place were the Ducklings WR 13, down 2 to 13th.
INDIVIDUALS
The teams table may not have changed much on day 8 but the individual table certainly did.
Miles (TA) got 3/4 correct on Sunday, and as the only member of the overnight top 5 who got more than 50%, he moved up 2 to 1st place on tiebreak from Akhenaten (BT), who rose 20 places to 2nd after getting 4/4.
Just one point behind are Scratchy (BT), up 29 to 3rd after also getting a perfect score on day 8, and Dan C (TN), up 2 to 4th for the day as a whole, though he was in the lead at one point. Two points further back are 2008 AO BOTB runner-up DavidC (BT), down 4 to 5th, and 2008 Monte Carlo BOTB winner & former world no. 1 Linda (AM), up 11 to 6th.
Just behind them is world no. 8 Roy (GR), down 3 to 7th, who is attempting to finish in the top three for the second slam in a row, and the top 10 is completed by mataeo1983 (TA), down 3 to 8th, mattk77 (SG), up 25 to 9th, and Björki (MT), down 3 to 10th. The latter finished 3rd in the 2007 Paris Masters, so nearly half of the new top 10 have finished on the podium before.
Claire Thompson (JM), down 19 to 21st after getting just 1/4 on Sunday, was the only entrant who started the day in the top 7 who was unfortunate enough to finish it outside the top 10.
ON THE RISE
Just 4 entrants got 4/4 on day 8. Those in 2nd & 3rd places have already been mentioned, the others were by far the biggest risers of the day - jesswrig (TA), up 148 to 99th, and buddyholly (MT), up 133 to 138th.
DODGY DROPPERS
Well over 100 entrants got only 1/4 correct on Sunday but just 6 failed to score at all. The biggest fallers were mintsauce (AM), down 118 to 258th, and the only entrant who picked ili to win the title, Gigi (AM), down 74 to 297th, the other four having started the day close to the bottom of the table anyway.
MONDAY
alikay (TN), who had all 8 QF picks still standing, can still potentially get 7 through, as can all 4 entrants who got 4/4 on Sunday. The big question is, can any of the other players in the first two matches below save the 76% of us who didn't pick Nole to make the semis ...
PC 1: (3) Nole 78% v Ginepri (nobody) - 19% JCF, 3% Querrey SL 1: (22) Melzer 1% v (Q) Gabashvili (nobody) - 88% Ferrer, 9% Duckboy, 2% Monaco PC 3: (2) Rafa 100% v (24) Bellucci (nobody) - 1 pick for Ljubo SL 3: (7) Verdasco 78% v (19) Almagro 11% - 10% Gonzo, 1% others
TEAM KO
SF scores so far, based on RG R4 scores - I haven't looked at the figures in detail yet, but it's possible that the first semi below could go a long way to deciding which team will be the new world no. 1s at the end of RG:
(5) TalkAboutTennis 8.64 lead (1) BritishTennis.net 7.68 (2) MensTennisForums 8.21 lead (11) BBC 606 boards 6.67
For the 5th-16th place play-off scores, please see the main results pages.

I'm 2nd!! Wooo!! My belief in Berdych reaps the rewards.
I believe in the one true Birdbrain, the Tennis Player Almighty, Maker of all things drop-shotty and lob-able; And in one Lord Youzhny, Light of Light, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Clay; By whom all things were made unreturnable; He suffered, and the third day of Roland Garros, but he rose again, ascended into the Quarterfinals; Amen
The only good thing that's come out of Andy going out to Berdych is that I only had Andy getting to the fourth round anyways. Although I expected him to lose to... to... Eh, I forget, we've lost so many seeds now to unexpected upsets, I don't think any of my picks are still left in except Fed, Rafa, Nole and Verdasco.

2010 ROLAND GARROS BOTB - DAY 9 'SYNDICATED' REPORT
Wins for 100% pick Rafa, Nole 78% and Melzer 1% against opponents nobody had picked to reach the QFs were followed by an upset when 11% pick Almagro (and to think I felt a bit stupid even picking that muppet to reach R4!) beat 78% pick Verdasco.
BritishTennis.net WR 2 are still on top by just over a point because despite a weaker round for them, none of the other boards have managed to mount a sustained challenge. MTF WR 8 stay in 2nd place and T4Y WR 12, who have won the last two rounds based on unadjusted averages (there are only 5 of them, so the adjustment makes quite a big difference) have moved up 1 to 3rd, swapping places with TAT WR 3.
The only team that moved more than one place today was Team CC WR 6, up 2 to 6th.
INDIVIDUALS
The top 4, i.e. Miles (TA), Akhenaten (BT), Scratchy (BT) & Dan C (TN) in that order, all got 2/4 today and stayed where they were, but Deathless Mortal (MT), up 8 to 5th, was one of about 30 entrants who equal top scored on Monday with 3/4, and dislodges DavidC (BT), down 1 to 6th, from the top 5.
With Linda (AM) getting just 1/4 and slipping 13 places to 19th, Roy (GR), mataeo1983 (TA) & mattk77 (SG) stay in 7th to 9th, with Borovnia (TY), up 28 to 10th, moving up into the top 10 after getting 3/4, closely followed by Scotsguy (CC), up 28 to 11th, who is just outside on t/b.
ON THE RISE
Of those who got 3/4 correct, juliette (RG), up 78 to 100th, and Craven91 (BT), up 72 to 150th, Osmeone (IN), up 72 to 174th, and the only entrant who started R4 with all 8 QF-ists still standing (6 won) alikay (TN), up 72 to 208th, all rose more than 70 places.
However, the star of R4 was jesswrig (TA), up 52 to 47th today, who was the only entrant who got 7/8 QF-ists correct and has moved up exactly 200 places over R4 as a whole.
DODGY DROPPERS
Nearly 70 entrants equal low-scored with just 1/4 on Sunday, with Raven (AM), down 63 to 133rd, fallers of the day Jtdrum10 (TA) & Don x (RN), both down 65 to 148=, Irena2 (TA), down 64 to 153rd, EdTennisFan (BB), down 64 to 165th, genbrit (AM), down 63 to 167th, and Cain Bradley (BB), down 63 to 171=, all falling more than 60 places.
vchap (LH) was the lowest scorer for R4 as a whole, getting just 1/4 and dropping another 8 places to 341st today.
TUESDAY
Just 11 entrants have all four semi-finalists still standing - Deathless Mortal (MT) is the highest placed of them in 5th, with Björki (MT) and eblunt (BT) also less than 10 points off the lead with all of their semi-finalists intact.
The lowest-placed of these 11 entrants is IntnstyAngle (TA) way down in 300th!
PC 2: (1) Fed 89% v (5) Söd 3% - those who picked Gulbis 5%, le Monf 1%, ili 1% & Stani could do with a Swedish win too SL 2: (15) Berdbrain 12% v (11) Youzhny 8% - JWT 33%, Muzza 31%, Robredo 9%, Dammit 1%, Baggy 1%, Isner 1%, others 1% - about 90% are going to lose out whatever the result
I'll probably just do a single report on the whole of the QF round on Wednesday.
TEAM KO
The line-up for all the Finals (which will be based on the remaining 7 matches at RG) is as follows:
FINAL: (5) TalkAboutTennis are tied with (2) MensTennisForums 0-0 3-4: (1) BritishTennis.net are tied with (11) BBC 606 boards 0-0 5-6: (13) Centre Court Forum are tied with (10) AndyMurray.com 0-0 7-8: (8) Rusedski.co.uk are tied with (3) JamieMurray.org 0-0 9-10: (16) The Daily Forehand are tied with (6) Tennis4you.com 0-0 11-12: (12) Tennisopolis.com are tied with (15) AndyRoddick.com 0-0 13-14: (9) RichardGasquet.net are tied with (7) RogerFederer.com 0-0 15-16: (4) Other Boards are tied with (14) GBTennisGirls.com 0-0
