Week 20 - Roland Garros womens' qualifying

QR1: Naomi Cavaday WR 174 v Beatriz Garcia Vidagany (ESP) WR 183

The Spaniard lost 4 & 2 to Georgie Stoop in Vigo last year but stunned Kim Clijsters in Marbella last month on her WTA tour debut and the Belgian's first match on clay since her return.

Probably a better than average draw though.

Disagree. An out and out clay courter with some cracking wins in recent times over players of a far better calibre than Cav.

Think this is very tough

I meant in the context that any draw at RG was likely to be tough for Cav, at least she's avoided an experienced player in the top 150. It doesn't mean I expect her to win.

Difficult to evaluate this draw. A much improved player and clearly a clay court specialist. Her best efforts have been in her home country and this maybe her first match at Grand Slam level. On this surface she is arguably playing top 100 tennis at the moment.

So overall I would agree with Paul that its a pretty tough draw.

I can see both points of view. Some of her results on clay this year have been stunning, making her an opponent to be feared. However quite a few players struggle when they make their grand slam qualifying debut - lets hope Beatriz is one

Yes it could have been tougher especially if she is was only looking to progress through the first round. Didn't draw a seed but still a tough draw IMO.

This will depend on which Naomi turns up. The Florence Cav or the Brescia Cav. Hoping it's the latter personally... She has a chance and she has to go out and take them all.
