Week 20- Cremona, Italy ($30k +H), Outdoor Hard

Jamie Baker will be in the MD here

In qualifying we have Chris Eaton and the return of Richard Bloomfield!

Sadly both men are in the same quarter as each other.

Bloomfield will play against Brazillian Rodrigo Grill (WR 868) with the winner to play 4th seed Juan Sebastian Cabal (WR 342) from Columbia.

Eaton starts off against Fin, Harri Heliovaara (WR 483) with the winner to play 6th seed Marius Copil (WR 362) from Romania

Hopefully one of our boys can qualify, i'm not sure which one i would prefer to qualify tho juggle.gif

Also looks like Jamie B is going to be just one place off a seed, so its a stroke of unluck on the Brits again

Shame theyre in the same quarter but a really good chance for one of them to qualify, both seeds ranked pretty low.

R32: Josh Goodall (GBR) WR 297 vs. Go Soeda (JAP) (3) WR 152
R32: Jamie Baker (GBR) WR 268 vs. Aljaz Bedene (SLO) WR 279

Goodall got a pretty crummy draw with Soeda although Soeda had been in S.Korea since today and i think it's something like a 10 hour flight to Italy? So he might be a bit tired after his exploits last week

The winner of Baker's game is likely to play 1st seed Rajeev Ram. Baker's opponent Bedene is playing his 1st tournament on hard this year, whilst his year to date hasn't been that great, managing to qualify for 2 challenger out of 5, reaching the last 16 in both times.

Good luck guys

Baker lost 6-3 4-6 6-1 to Bedene on clay in Slovenia last June but that was his first match back after injury.

A fair amount of Brit interest in the doubles biggrin :

Jamie & Jonny are the second seeds & scheduled to take on Dustin Brown & Sandro Motti (JAM/ITA) in R1, which won't be easy.  In the other half of the draw, Chris Eaton, interestingly, has teamed up with promising young Aussie, Bernie Tomic, & they take on the local pair, Giuseppe Menga & our old friend, "Stoppers", in the first round, while Delgo & Goody face the Finnish pair, Harri Heliövaara & Juho Paukku.  Fingers crossed...

With news to Jamie Baker, the winner of his match will now face Marco Crugnola who saw off top seed Rajeev Ram 7-6(8), 3-6, 6-1. Qualifier Copil of Romania also saw off 6th seed Olaso meaning Jamie is now the highest ranked player left in his quarter

Hmm... Hard to know which source to believe:  the draw sheet on the tournament web site gives the score I posted earlier, while the results section on the LS says that they won by 3 & 4! hmm Either way, they won! w00t.gif   Their opponents in the QF will be Rogerio Dutra da Silva & Alejandro González (yet another tennis-playing Gonzo!  Hardly surprising, though, given that  the name's as common as muck in Spanish-speaking countries... nod.gif ) (BRA/ COL).  South American opponents on the red stuff!  Jonny & Jamie, beware... fear.gif
