Apparently the court surface was in a horrendous state following rain the previous day. So delays were probably due to repairing the surface and not any injury.
There's been more rain today to add to the problems. However there has been some play, and Anne is up whenever the current rainbreak is over
In doubles Sarah and Raquel have a nice opener against a couple of young Poles (Magda Linette has partnered Heather quite often) but if successful will probably come up against the top seeds.
Doubles MD
(1) Black/Yan (ZIM/CHN) v Grandin/Spears (RSA/USA) Borwell/Kops-Jones (GBR/USA) v (WC) Kania/Linette (POL)
Play starts tomorrow at 10am BST. If they play outdoors then Anne will be second match on court 2 (against either Abigail Spears or Greta Arn) whilst Sarah and Raquel are third on court 1 (after Melanie Oudin)
Thats a pretty comprehensive scoreline, gives me every confidence she can beat Arn tomorrow. Let's face it she must be feeling good vibes having played so well here last year.
Yes, fraid so and also she was defending 80 points from Madrid last year for the week just gone so will be dropping to around 118th place in Monday's rankings.
So even qualifying and repeating last year's tremendous effort of reaching the semi finals wouldn't maintain her current ranking.
If she "just" qualifies here she will probably drop outside the top 150 in the rankings on a week Monday.
The good news is that after that she will only have 27 points to defend for the rest of the year, indeed until next February. But it will be really good if she can do well again here this year to at least limit any fall just now so that she will have less to climb back in future weeks.
Yes i suppose that's what happens when you've done well the previous year. So many points to defend. Anne looks to be back on track though so should quickly climb back up again if she keeps the form going. At least the good thing about the injury is the period coming up where she has no points to defend, so be interesting to see if she can re-enter the top 100 and get back near the top 50 again.
